CLEARWATER, Fla. - Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz was removed from Panama's 7-0 loss to Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic last night after suffering a neck injury.

"We have to wait until tomorrow to see what the doctor says," Panama manager Hector Lopez said in a postgame news conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

After Panama pitcher Bruce Chen suggested that Ruiz had suffered a pinched nerve, Lopez said, "It seems that he has a pinched nerve."

No further information was available.
