Found September 10, 2012 on Philliedelphia:
As one season winds down, another one winds up in Arizona. This year the Phillies farmhands report to the Peoria Javelinas. Pitchers Jay Johnson, Colby Shreve, and Kyle Simon join catcher Tommy Jospeh, third baseman Cody Asche, and outfielder Zach Collier. Kyle Simon was acquired in the Jim Thome trade (remember the Phillies had Jim Thome this season?) and was immediately converted to a reliever and immediately put up stellar numbers in Clearwater and later in Reading. Could very well be a dark horse candidate for the bullpen in '13 and we definitely have lots of options there. Jay Johnson's future seems to be that of a lefty specialist and while Shreve's numbers don't appear all that impressive, they seem to be distorted by a handful of bad appearances sandwiched between some really good ones. Tommy Jospeh needs no introduction being the key piece of the Hunter Pence trade. After being dealt, he instantly became a top ten Phillies prospect. With Carlos Ruiz en...

An Improving Kendrick Helping Phillies Stay In Hunt

Kyle Kendrick, for varying reasons has been persona non grata in Philadelphia for quite some time. After getting off to a solid major league start in 2007, Kendrick was bounced to the minors in 2009. In 2010 he competed for a job in the Phillies starting rotation, only to be thrown into the bullpen. Same for 2011, aside from some spot starts here and there. All the while Kendrick...

Reading’s Season Ends as Ruf’s Continues On

The highs and lows of professional baseball are no better evidenced by Darin Ruf‘s day on Sunday. Shortly after grounding into a double play to end the Reading Phillies’ season, the slugger learned that he would be joining the big league Phillies. Pained by the loss, just moments after the Trenton Thunder eliminated the R-Phils from the Double-A Eastern League playoffs, Ruf...

They're just six games behind St. Louis for a playoff spot, and suddenly, instead of four teams between them, it's just two. Now look, calm yourself now. The Phillies are 69-71. The team they just swept, Colorado, is awful. Like, one game...

5 Straight and Just 5 Out of the Wild Card

It is the first time they have been one game under .500 since June 5. They are 5 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second NL Wild Card spot. Phillies Let Us Enter The Ruf Age

The Phils promoted power-hitting prospect, Darin Ruf, who hit a minor league-leading 38 homers (with 20 of them coming in August).  That was at Double-A and he’s 26 years old.  In scout speak, that’s not good.  Scouts speak in short sentences so they don’t miss the Early Bird Specials.  Based not on facts but my gut (and Ruf’s), “Babe” Ruf reminds me of Matt Stairs...
