St. Louis Cardinals
A change of scenery and a new mission: Chase the St. Louis Cardinals. Entering tonight's game in Houston, the Phillies were three games back in the second wildcard. So, a four-game series against the Astros sounds like the perfect time to gain some ground, right?
The Phillies got the ball rolling in the second inning against Lucas Harrell. With Dom Brown on base, Erik Kratz hit an RBI double off the wall in left-center field. 1-0 Phils.
In the top of the third, they added three more runs to their lead. Ryan Howard hit a sac fly to center, scoring Juan Pierre. Chase Utley scored on a single from John Mayberry, followed by an infield single from Kevin Frandsen, scoring Mayberry.
Tyler Cloyd was looking pretty solid considering he was pitching on short rest...until the fourth inning. Cloyd had allowed two singled to Justin Maxwell and Jason Castro before former Marlin Matt Dominguez launched a looong three-run homer to left field. 4-3 Phillies.
After three innings, Cloyd wa...

With a 35-21 record since the All-Star break, the Phillies have finally gotten over the .500 mark at 72-71. With 19 games left to play, they are a mere three games behind the Cardinals for the elusive second wild-card berth in the National League.
With Jimmy Rollins playing like a superhero, Kyle Kendrick pitching like a fourth ace, and the lineup and bullpen rounding into form...
Jimmy Rollins, Philadelphia Phillies Shortstop, is batting .306 with 4 HR and 9 RBI in the past two weeks. Not coincidentally, the once dead Phillies are back in the thick of the playoff race.Jimmy Rollins, Philadelphia Phillies
A few weeks ago Jimmy Rollins was public enemy #1. Rollins has always been a lightning rod for controversy and this season has been no exception. After signing...

HOUSTON -- Jed Lowrie hit a two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning to give the Astros the lead, and Houston held on for a 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night. Matt Dominguez homered for the Astros, who ended the Phillies' winning streak at a season-high seven games and dropped Philadelphia to 3 1/2 games back in the National League wild-card race...
The Phils are red hot. Last nights win was intense. Everyone
was on edge as they all wanted to keep the winning streak alive. At the top of
the sixth the score was stuck at 0-0.
Lee gave up a hit to Carlos Lee, which brought home Solano. The score
was now 1-0, Marlins.
The Fightings weren’t giving up this easily, keeping the
attitude they’ve had all season and...
Last night's wacky 9-7 win must have exhausted the Phillies, as well the Marlins. On a travel day, this evening's game got underway at 4:05, so the two teams had to battle some nasty shadows. Unfortunately for the Fish, they also had to battle Cliff Lee.
Let's skip ahead to the sixth inning with the score still at 0-0. Josh Johnson had not given up a hit through...

An improbable run by the Philadelphia Phillies has pulled them within three games of the second NL wild card after being on pace to miss the playoffs just a few months ago.
Helped by a favorable schedule, the Phillies will face a third straight division cellar dweller as they open a four-game series against the Houston Astros on Thursday night.
After looking like it was out of...
The Phils win their sixth straight game as they finally reach the .500 mark as they hang on to defeat the Marlins, 9-7.
The Phils took the lead in the first as, with the bases loaded, via singles by Jimmy Rollins and Juan Pierre, with Rollins stopping at second base, and a walk by Chase Utley, with both runners moving up a base, and with nobody out, Ryan Howard hits into a double...
