Yesterday morning the New York Yankees acquired Ichiro Suzuki from the Seattle Mariners for pitching prospects D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar. By that night, Ichiro was starting for the Yankees in right field and batting 8th against his former team. It must have been a bittersweet moment for Ichiro who’s spent his entire 12-year Major League Baseball career with the Mariners, since he made the move from Japan in 2001. On one side, it was great for Ichiro because he’ll be given an opportunity to play in the playoffs for his first time since 2001. On the other hand, he’s leaving the only real home he’s ever known in the U.S. He’ll be a big upgrade for the Yankees in the field but he’ll have to start hitting better if he wants to be an upgrade for them at the plate. Ichiro is currently batting .261 with 4 HR’s, 28 RBI and 16 SB’s. Ichiro went 1-4 in his debut for the Yankees as they beat the Mariners 4-1. Check out some photos of Ichiro in his new Yankees gear...

Yankeetorial: The Master faces his greatest challenge ever: the historic HR call for Ichiro

At some point, Ichiro Suzuki will hit a home run for the Yankees. Odds are, he won't hit two. But let's face it, a little wind, a little momentum from a Yankee Stadium crowd, the right pitch... and Ichiro will smack one. That gives the legendary radio voice of the New York Yankees one shot at permanently Sterlingizing the future Hall of Famer. One call. The opportunity...

Ichiro Made Concessions To Join Yankees

From Wallace Matthews:Ichiro Suzuki apparently wanted the New York Yankees even more than the Yankees wanted him. Before completing a trade to acquire the Japanese star, the Yankees spelled out a list of conditions to Ichiro, a former American League MVP and two-time batting champion. Ichiro would be asked to switch positions, hit at the bottom of the lineup and possibly...

Ichiro Suzuki becomes a New York Yankees

English: Ichiro Suzuki on June 10, 2009. (Photo credit: Wikipedia) The New York Yankees strengthened their AL East Division-leading line-up on July 23 by trading for Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners. The 38-year-old Japanese star was acquired for Danny Farquhar and D.J. Mitchell, two minor league pitchers who are scheduled to report to triple-A team Tacoma. Howard Lincoln, the...

Ichiro Suzuki: Professional Hitter

Ichiro Suzuki has done one thing better than anyone since entering the majors in 2001, hit. He joined the Mariners after a very good professional career in Japan. He was 27 and in the prime of his career. His first season saw him lead the Mariners to 116 wins (tied for most regular season wins). He was the first Japanese player to become an everyday player in the bigs and experts...

Yankees acquire Ichiro for two minor leaguers

SEATTLE - The Yankees acquired right fielder Ichiro Suzuki from the Mariners in exchange for minor-league right-handed pitchers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Fahrquhar. Seattle also sent an undisclosed amount of cash to the Yankees. Ironically, the Yankees and Mariners opened a three-game series at Safeco Field on Monday, with Ichiro changing uniforms and dugouts before the game. However...

Ichiro Suzuki, a Yankee

As a long time Seattle Mariners fan and a person with distaste for the New York Yankees, I can sum up last night’s trade in two words.  It stinks.  The face of the franchise, Ichiro Suzuki, and cash was sent to the New York Yankees for two prospects.  I know that Ichiro is nearing the end of his career, and it became unclear if he was going to continue with the Mariners, since...

Ichiro traded to the Yankees

The New York Yankees made a huge splash prior to next weekend’s trade deadline acquiring the face of the Seattle Mariners franchise for over a decade in Ichiro Suzuki. In exchange for Ichiro the Yankees sent minor league pitchers DJ Mitchell and Danny Fahrquar to Seattle according to Jack Curry of the YES Network. After making his way to the United States and signing with the...

Ichiro Suzuki, Anibal Sanchez Trades Have Yankees, Tigers Rendering American League Wild Card Race Pointless

When spring began, and MLB fans and predictors were making their choices for who would rule the year, the Yankees and Tigers were foregone conclusions. New York would get some kind of playoff spot out of the American League East, and Detroit would win the American League Central running away. But the first few months of the season seemed to prove common sense wrong. The Tigers started...

Yankees Trade for Ichiro in Deal that would have been a Huge Story 4 Years Ago

The New York Yankees traded two pitching prospects for an outfielder hitting below the league average in Ichiro Suzuki. Ichiro is in the final year of his contract worth $90 million, and asked to be traded. The Yankees took the bait. This easily ranks as the biggest block buster trade of 2012, in that Ichiro has spent his entire career in Seattle and it will be hard for Mariners...

Ichiro’s Last Week As A Seattle Mariner

Ichiro Suzuki left the Seattle Mariners this week but before that, he still had to play with the Seattle Mariners against the Kansas City Royals and the Tampa Bay Rays on the road. The Mariners were 3-1 against KC and 2-1 against the Rays. Some of the major highlights of the week included scoring 9 runs twice against the Royals, taking Tampa deep into 14 innings, breaking a 2-year...

Ichiro to the Bronx

Only in American baseball can a guy walk across the other side of the field and into the dugout that belonged to opponents moments earlier and call it home. It was a strange scene that the baseball world didn’t have a lot of time to prepare for. I never pictured Ichiro Suzuki in anything other than a Mariners uniform. And if it was going to happen it would be okay; we would all...

Wandy Rodriguez Swap Means That MLB Trade Season is Officially On

On Monday it came out of nowhere, but the great Ichiro Suzuki moving from the Seattle Mariners to the New York Yankees was the first sign that things had finally gotten going in Major League Baseball's trade deadline season. So, if it wasn't already clear, Wandy Rodriguez being shipped from Houston to Pittsburgh put its official stamp on this last week of July -- it's...
