The Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to terms with infielder Anderson Hernandez, per a team press release. Hernandez, a switch hitter, has 643 career at-bats in the majors, with a .241/.300/.314 line. He spent the 2011 season with Houston’s AAA affiliate, hitting for a .300/.366/.400 line in 510 at-bats. Hernandez has spent most of his career at shortstop, but also has played second, third, and three games in left field. In the majors he’s primarily been a second baseman, with 119 games at second and 72 games at short.
Hernandez was given an invite to Spring Training where he will likely compete for the backup middle infield job.
