Found July 25, 2012 on Pirates Prospects:

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com has a report that the Pittsburgh Pirates could trade one of Kevin Correia or Jeff Karstens, following the recent acquisition of Wandy Rodriguez. Dealing one of those two would clear a space for Rodriguez in the rotation, although the Pirates can clear a spot by just moving Correia to the bullpen.

We’ve heard that they’ve been shopping Correia earlier this season. Correia would make the most sense to move. He’s a free agent at the end of the year, and he’s not pitching as well as Karstens. Meanwhile, Karstens is under control through the 2013 season, and has been pitching well lately. Correia probably wouldn’t get much of a return, while Karstens would bring back the most value.

First Pitch: Why I Don’t Like the Wandy Rodriguez Trade

I thought a lot about Wandy Rodriguez tonight. I really didn’t have any other choice. I was driving down to Florida today, which is a 13 hour trip from Virginia. The main purpose of that trip is helping my parents move to Orlando tomorrow. The second part of the trip will be heading over to Bradenton to cover the GCL and the Bradenton Marauders on Thursday and Friday. One of the...

Pirates pick up Left Hander Wandy Rodriguez from the Astros

The Pirates made a move yesterday to add depth to their pitching rotation.  In a four player deal the Pirates traded for Houston Left Hander Wandy Rodriguez.  Rodriguez is 7-9 this season with a 3.79 ERA.  The Pirates gave up three of their top 16 prospects in the deal.  Pitchers Rudy Owens and Cotton Cain are headed to Houston a long with the Pirates Outfielder Robbie Grossman...

Pirates Trade For Wandy Rodriguez

As you’ve probably heard the Pittsburgh Pirates have traded for LHP Wandy Rodriguez from the Houston Astros.  The Pirates sent the Astros LHP Rudy Owens, LHP Colton Cain, and OF Robbie Grossman.  They will also receive $12 million dollars in cash, depending on if Wandy exercises his 2014 player option. Personally, I like the trade. [...]

Pirates Acquire Wandy Rodriguez from Astros

According to Jon Heyman, the Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired Wandy Rodriguez from the Houston Astros. Tom Singer of MLB.com originally reported that the deal was close to terms. There is no word yet on who the Pirates have given up in the deal. Heyman said the Astros will send money to the Pirates. Rodriguez is owed $30 million for the remainder of this season and in 2013. Rodriguez...

Some Friday morning links: Ultimate Fan Guide and Kevin Corriea and other things

Let's start out with some self-promotion: Pittsburgh Magazine has put their Ultimate Fan Guide together for the Pirates and Steelers and Penguins and I helped out some with the Pirates/PNC Park section. You should check it out. You've probably seen this by now, but in light of the Wandy Rodriguez trade the Pirates will move Kevin Correia to the bullpen. Correia is not happy...

Pittsburgh Pirates Trade History: Houston Astros Edition

With the trade of three prospects for Wandy Rodriguez, I thought we would take a look back at the trade history between the Houston Astros and Pittsburgh Pirates. The Astros came to be in 1962, born as the Houston Colt .45′s before changing their name to the Astros for the 1965 season. The two teams have made six trades of note in the past. Thanks to the daily “This Date” column...

Pirates acquire Rodriguez in trade with Astros

The Pittsburgh Pirates are in the position of being buyers rather than sellers this season, and that was demonstrated on Tuesday when the Pirates acquired 33-year-old starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez for three prospects. In recent years, the Pirates have been hopelessly out of the race by the time the trading deadline approached, but they entered Tuesday's action 1 1/2 games...

Pirates Acquire Wandy Rodriguez, Bolster Rotation

The Pittsburgh Pirates haven’t been known to make too many splashes via trades. The front office has been starting to take a noticeable turn, though, and the Pirates made their first big (if you can call it that) acquisition in a long time. Trading for the Houston Astros’ Wandy Rodriguez, the surprising Pirates have solidified a starting rotation topped by Aces James McDonald...

The Pirates trade for Wandy Rodriguez:

There are a lot of things to be discussed right now, but before we start discussing them we need to get the obvious thing out of the way: the Pirates traded for Wandy Rodriguez last night and they sent Rudy Owens, Robbie Grossman, and Colton Cain to the Astros in return. There are some particulars that need hashed out: the Astros owe Rodriguez $13 million in 2013, when he'll...

The Pittsburgh Pirates made several moves on Thursday. They optioned outfielder Gorkys Hernandez to Triple-A Indianapolis. Left-hander Wandy Rodriguez was added to the 25-man roster. The Bleakness That Is The Houston Astros’ Franchise

2012 is important for the Astros to sift through all the recently-added players from 2011′s trades and callups from the minors.  The 2012 season will be a pretty bleak season for fans at Minute Maid Park.  – 2012 Houston Astros Forecast from the 2012 Pirates Prospects Annual. When I wrote those words in December 2011, I knew things were going to be ugly for the Astros in 2012...
