Pirates cut Kratz; Jaramillo will be backup catcher

The Pirates reassigned Erik Kratz to minor league camp today after a lot of speculation that he would actually make the club to give Jason Jaramillo every day at bats in AAA. The Bucs decided against that as Jaramillo will be the backup this season.Kratz went 2 for 13 this spring, but the 29 year old put up an .809 OPS in AAA-Indianapolis last year.Jaramillo went 5 for 24 this spring. In his rookie season last year, he hit .252/.309/.364.With 12 healthy pitchers left in camp, the pitching staff seems to be set for opening day. After this move, it leaves John Raynor, Steve Pearce, and Ramon Vazquez fighting for one last spot on the roster.
