The Pittsburgh Pirates have invited the following non-roster players to Spring Training, according to a list given to me today.
Brooks Brown, RHP
Erik Cordier, RHP
Ryan Reid, RHP
Kris Johnson, LHP
Mike Zagurski, LHP
Ali Solis, C
Jared Goedert, 3B
Matt Hague, 1B
Anderson Hernandez, 2B
Darren Ford, OF
Felix Pie, OF
A few of these guys we’ve already heard about at the time of their signings. There are a few guys we haven’t heard about, such as Hague. They could add to this list as Spring Training gets closer. I’d imagine we’ll see more catchers, just because the major league team will need plenty of catchers the first few weeks in camp.

Winter Leagues Recap: Four Hits for Howard and Hernandez
In the Australian Baseball League today, Adelaide split a doubleheader, with both games going extra innings. In game one, the Bite pulled out a 2-1 victory in 11 innings. Jason Grilli, Having Just Re-Signed With Pirates, Admits He Doesn’t Expect to Win in Pittsburgh
It’s safe to say that Jason Grilli can be called a journeyman. Over the course of 10 big-league seasons, the 36-year-old has played for six major league teams and countless minor league stops, finding intermittent success along the way.
However, in 2012 Grilli probably had the best season of his career, his second with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Over the course of 58 2/3 innings,...
Pirates happy but not done with offseason moves
The Pirates have their catcher. They also have their setup man. Still, there's plenty left on general manager Neal Huntington's to-do list before the team reports for spring training in two months.
Pittsburgh signed former New York Yankee catcher Russell Martin to take over behind the plate and brought back reliever Jason Grilli. The Pirates remain in the market for another...
Knobler: Tigers Not Interested in Joel Hanrahan
The Tigers are in need of a late-inning reliever or closer and have a young, solid starting pitcher that they are likely to trade. The Pirates need a solid starting pitcher and have a late-inning reliever or closer that they are likely to trade.
Because of those two things, many have wondered that a deal involving the Pirates’ Joel Hanrahan and Tigers’ Rick Porcello makes sense...
Grilli's return to Pirates might make Hanrahan expendable
The Pittsburgh Pirates answered one question by re-signing setup reliever Jason Grilli as a free agent. However, that move creates another question. Will Joel Hanrahan be the Pirates' closer on Opening Day? Now that the Pirates signed Grilli to a two-year, $6.75 million contract, they have more flexibility to pursue a trade of Hanrahan. Grilli, 37, has just five saves in...
Roster Watch: Matt Hague
For a long time Matt Hague was everyone’s favorite underdog. He was so beloved he even had his own twitter campaign, #FreeMattHague. There was never really a huge reason for it. He’s been alright in his Minor League career, but certainly nothing obscenely special. Hague was drafted out of college and basically spent a whole [...]

Winter Leagues Recap: Fuesser Strikes Out Seven in Loss
In Australia today, Zac Fuesser threw six innings in his team’s 4-2 loss. Fuesser allowed all four runs, three were earned, while giving up seven hits, two walks and he struck out seven batters. Pirates Interested in Rick Porcello
The Detroit Tigers signed Anibal Sanchez today, which has led to a lot of speculation that Rick Porcello could become available in a trade. Jim Bowden reports that the Pirates are one of the teams interested in Porcello.
