Baseball players seem to suffer the most bizarre injuries imaginable.Take new Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano for example. The southpaw inked a one-year deal with the Buccos this past Friday, however, the signing almost didn't come to fruition.In December, Pittsburgh and Liriano were reportedly close to agreeing to a contract before it was announced that Liriano had mysteriously broken his non-throwing arm. The deal fell through and many were left to wonder what exactly happened. On Monday, we got our answer.According to multiple reports, Liriano broke his right humerus bone on Christmas Day while slamming himself into a door in an effort to scare his kids, who were in the next room. The southpaw was supposed to fly to Pittsburgh on Dec. 26, but the pain in his arm was too much and he was forced to go to the hospital instead.Fortunately, his arm has healed well enough to this point to convince the Pirates to sign him anyway. He has passed a physical and is expected to be fully recovered by the start of the regular season.The 29-year-old will be entering his eight season in Major League Baseball this year. He spent 2005-2012 with the Minnesota Twins before being traded to the Chicago White Sox during last season's trade deadline.The Dominican native boasts a 53-54 record and 4.40 ERA in 168 lifetime appearances.Via Deadspin
