Nothing has changed with Rangers, Hamilton

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels will head to Nashville for next week's Winter Meetings with nothing resolved concerning the future of Josh Hamilton. That's just the way Daniels expected it to be. "I've maintained contact with (agent) Mike Moye," Daniels said. "The interest has been consistent. The process that we agreed to back in the spring...

Nolan Ryan to release beef cookbook

A new book by baseball Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan will be a bit of a sizzler. Memo To The Sox: Stay Away From Mike Napoli

Mike Napoli frightens me. Everything about him frightens me. When he comes up to bat against the Red Sox, I’m always frightened that he’s going to hit a ball into the last row of the upper deck and then throw his wad of chewing tobacco at the pitcher. I’m frightened when he makes eye contact with the camera.  If I saw him in the streets, I’d turn and run the opposite way...

Vote: Do You Want the Red Sox to Sign Josh Hamilton?

Josh Hamilton is a free agent conundrum. There have been few players in the recent history of free agency that have been such an interesting case as the former MVP outfielder. On the one hand, there are few players in baseball as talented as Hamilton. Though his speed has come down a bit, he’s accurately described as a five-tool player, and his power, in particular, is other worldly...

Rangers pick up right-hander from Padres

The Texas Rangers added another arm for spring training by acquiring right-hander Cory Burns from San Diego for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Burns, who was designated for assignment by the Padres last week, made his major-league debut with San Diego by pitching in 17 games last season. He allowed 11 runs in 18 innings. He spent most of the season in Triple...

Mike Napoli Hasn’t Been Re-Signed by Rangers Due to Down Season, Need for Better Defensive Catcher (Video)

It seems that every MLB team is pining after free agent first baseman/catcher Mike Napoli this offseason, so you have to wonder why the Texas Rangers don’t seem to be rushing to re-sign their 2012 All Star. The Rangers didn’t offer Napoli a qualifying offer this year after he rejected a three-year, $38 million extension last offseason. Napoli is meeting with the Rangers this...

Cubs agree to 1-year deal with RHP Feldman

The Chicago Cubs and former Texas Rangers pitcher Scott Feldman have agreed to a one-year contract. The deal was announced Tuesday. Feldman is guaranteed $6 million next season and can earn another $1 million in incentives. The 29-year-old right-hander was 39-44 with a 4.81 ERA over eight years with the Rangers, going 6-11 with a 5.09 ERA last season. A reliever early in his...

Report: Red Sox View Mike Napoli as Priority in Free Agency to Fill First Base Vacancy

Mike Napoli sits atop of Boston’s wish list. According to the Boston Herald, Napoli is reportedly the Red Sox’ first option in free agency. If the club manages to reach an agreement with Napoli, they’d likely pencil him in at first base as opposed to catcher. Napoli, who has already convened with the Red Sox and Mariners, is scheduled to sit down with the Rangers on Wednesday...

Rangers Winterball Roundup – 11/26

Tigres del Licey right fielder Engel Beltre broke out of his slump on Monday by clubbing a two-run home run, his first of the Dominican Winter League campaign. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Cubs sign righty Feldman

Pitcher Scott Feldman signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, the team announced. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. The right-hander pitched in 29 games for the Texas Rangers last season, including 21 starts. He posted a 5.09 ERA in 123 2/3 innings. The Rangers declined their 2013 option for Feldman last month, and gave him $600,000 buyout vs. $9.25 million salary.

Cubs Sign Scott Feldman, Land Another Bargain

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote up a comparison between Scott Feldman and Brandon McCarthy, noting that the two pitchers were probably more similar than their reputations would lead you to believe. As McCarthy noted in response, Feldman and McCarthy both altered their approaches to lean on the cut fastball while they were teammates in Texas, and the similarities are likely not a...
