TEAMS: San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners, Miami Marlins
For the third time in his career Street is switching teams, this time to the Padres. Street always delivered very solid strikeout numbers with great control, but Rockies fans will remember him for the home runs and injuries. Hopefully San Diego can fix one of those problems. Going from pitching in Coors Field to Petco Park is any pitcher’s dream and especially for one who only induced groundballs 34.9 percent of the time last season. In three seasons in Colorado, Street posted HR/9 totals of 1.02, 0.95 and 1.54. Compare that to his last stint in a pitcher’s park (0.34, 0.51, 0.90 and 0.77 in Oakland) and you would think the problem will be neutralized a bit.
Best case scenario: Neftali Feliz (TEX)
Similar players: Matt Capps (MIN), Brandon League (SEA), Heath Bell (MIA)
Worst case scenario: An injured Joe Nathan (MIN)
Strengths
Strikeouts, control. It’s exactly what you want to see out of your closer. Street boasts a very solid 9.10 K/9 and an equally impressive 2...

San Diego Padres 2012 Top 30 Prospects
We are proud to announce The San Diego Padres Top 30 Prospects for 2012. Peter Friberg has been studying minor league and amateur baseball players for nearly 10 years and has been writing about Padres minor leaguers for approximately eight.
In all my years, this is the hardest list I have ever had the privilege of compiling. When working on top prospect lists, I, in good faith...
Mowing Orlando Hudson's Lawn . . . for charity
Last evening, Padres MLB beat writer Corey Brock, offered a tweet with a couple of predictions for the team in 2012. He also asked fans to boldly predict the 2012 Padres season, an irresistible offer. I proffered the following:O-Dog holds a contest to mow his lawn. Proceeds benefit his Autism Charity. Simultaneously alienates and ingratiates fans. Pretend this prediction is awesome...
Padres open to offering Quentin an extension
The San Diego Padres appear to be open to the idea of offering newly acquired outfielder Carlos Quentin a contract extension.Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said the team had its payroll situation under control, and could afford to make a substantial offer to keep Quentin in San Diego for a while."Our payroll model is setting up well," Byrnes said. "We’re not...
Are the Padres Acquiring the Right Hitters?
Petco Park is hell on hitters. That’s not exactly a groundbreaking revelation. Anyone can look at Petco’s park effects and conclude the park suppresses offense quite a bit. Petco’s park effects are one of the first issues to emerge whenever the Padres make a major signing or acquisition. Analysts are usually quick to point out how the park will affect the new player...
Do the Padres and Braves Match Up For an Outfielder?
After the San Diego Padres traded for Carlos Quentin of the Chicago White Sox this past weekend, they seem to be flush with outfielders. Are the Atlanta Braves a good match for one of their several corner outfielders?Maybe, maybe not. It's established that Cameron Maybin is going to be starting in center field for them in 2012, as he should. I think at this point in time, he...
Padres Acquire A Major Bat
Happy New Year to you. It should be an especially happy time in San Diego.
In picking up power hitting OF Carlos Quentin, the Padres just inched their way into credibility in a vastly improving National League West. Quentin represents a major bat in a previously quiet, (to say the least,) Padres lineup. He will add a big time threat in the middle of the batting order, a quality...
BP Unfiltered: Quentin Trade Thoughts by Daniel Rathman
New Year’s Eve is supposed to be a holiday, but don’t tell that to Josh Byrnes and Kenny Williams, who—for the second time—engineered a trade involving Carlos Quentin. For the White Sox, Saturday’s deal is merely a small step in the rebuilding process. For the Padres, though, it seems to suggest future moves on the horizon.
As R.J. Anderson noted,...
Putting themselves on the map (the sequel)
For my first piece at Friar Forecast, I took a look at a position player (Connor Powers) in the Padres minor league system that you won’t see on any prospect lists but has a chance to open some eyes. For this time around, I’ll focus on a pitcher: Matt Jackson.
Jackson was drafted at the age of 21 by the Padres in the 31st round of the 2009 draft out of the University...

Padres acquire all-star OF Quentin from White Sox
The San Diego Padres have acquired outfielder Carlos Quentin from the Chicago White Sox in the trade Friday night. The Padres sent two prospects to the Whites Sox for the all-star fielder, who hit .254 BA with 24 home runs last season. Quentin also recorded a career-high 31 doubles and 77 RBIs, making his second All-Star team.Quentin gives some pop to San Diego’s struggling lineup...
Fantasy Impact: Quentin to San Diego
The San Diego Padres traded two middling prospects to the Chicago White Sox for oft-injured, power-heavy outfielder Carlos Quentin. This shouldn’t come as much surprise, but this move immediately decreases Quentin’s fantasy value.
First, while San Diego does have a reputation as a pitcher-friendly park (and it is) it plays as a 95 for right-handed home run power according...
Chicago White Sox Trade Carlos Quentin to San Diego Padres
Sometimes when players are traded, they get all upset about where they end up and who they'll miss. In Carlos Quentin's case, he's pretty excited.
The Chicago White Sox traded the All-Star outfielder to his hometown San Diego Padres this weekend, and when he got the call he was conveniently already in town.
This is also good news for the Padres, who sucked it up in...
