What happened to all those steals, Shane Victorino? After averaging 33 steals from 2007-2010, Victorino swiped just 19 bases in 2011, but his power was better than ever. Sure his 17 home runs weren’t a career high, but he played in 15 fewer games and his .212 ISO was 42 points higher than his previous career high. Whether the decrease in steals is a show of his age (31 in 2012) remains to be seen, but it’s clear he still has plenty of value in fantasy. He still bats atop a good lineup, which makes him a great bet for at least 95 runs and add in the 20/20 potential and you have a solid outfielder on your hands.
Best case scenario: Shin-Soo Choo (CLE) with more steals and runs
Similar players: Drew Stubbs (CIN), Desmond Jennings (TB), Brandon Phillips (CIN)
Worst case scenario: Melky Cabrera (SF)
Strengths
Power/speed, runs. Even if Victorino’s speed is decreasing with age, he is still a 20/20 or 15/25 threat which has plenty of value in fantasy. His runs will be ...
