Two Tigers could be announced as American League Gold Glove winners tonight -- Alex Avila at catcher and Austin Jackson in centerfield. But the Tigers' Jhonny Peralta won't win the Gold Glove at shortstop despite making only seven errors.

Players outrighted off 40-man rosters today:
The Tigers outrighted catcher Omir Santos and lefty Brad Thomas, tweets MLB.com's Jason Beck. Thomas would have been arbitration eligible, but it was clear he wouldn't make it to the point of being tendered a contract after missing much of the season with an elbow injury.

The cell phone rang, and Jim Leyland interrupted his pregame session with the media in the visiting manager's office in Oakland the morning after the Tigers clinched the American League Central Division. He had to take this call. It was Tony La Russa offering congratulations.
