Joe Blanton took the hill tonight against the Rockies, looking to take this series from them and earn his seventh win on the season. It would be a wild ballgame tonight, especially the ending.
The Phils scored first this evening in the first inning. Hunter Pence grounded out to score Juan Pierre from third.
Wilin Rosario homered to dead center in the second inning to score Jordan Pacheco and Chris Nelson, giving the Rockies a 3-1 lead.
Michael Martinez erased that lead with a three run homer of his own, a dinger to right center, scoring Placido Polanco and John Mayberry, Jr. 4-3 Phillies in the bottom of the second.
More home runs went flying tonight, the third coming from Michael Cuddyer in the third inning, and Chris Nelson sent a solo shot of his own in the fourth. 5-4 Rockies.
In the bottom of the fourth, Jimmy Rollins doubled to right field to score Mayberry, tying up the game at 5 a piece.
Joe Blanton's final line from tonight: 7 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 6 K. Antonio ...

Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will have surgery on his left groin area on Thursday and it's unknown when he'll return.
Tulowitzki was injured May 30 against Houston, pulling up after running out an infield grounder. The All-Star shortstop took himself out of a game last Wednesday at Triple-A Colorado Springs after feeling not quite right.
Rockies manager Jim...
The Colorado Rockies starting rotation has been awful at preventing runs this season. Their collective 5.38 ERA and 4.56 FIP are easily National League worsts, and their walk and home run rates rank at or near the bottom as well. Pitching in Coors Field plays a big part in their performance — as their much improved 3.90 SIERA and 4.10 xFIP indicate — but overall, starting pitching...
Well here’s something you don’t see every day—the Rockies are going to a four-man rotation. And what’s more, they’re going to put their four starters on a 75-pitch limit. Jim Tracy explained his decision like so:
"I felt we had to do something non-conventional," said Tracy of his beleaguered pitching staff that includes a reliever Josh Roenicke who has thrown...
Are the Colorado Rockies onto something? Or are they just desperate? The Rockies are trying to go with a four-man rotation and 75-pitch limits to find some reprieve from their poor performance on the mound so far this year. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette asked our Twitter followers if they thought that was a good idea or not. Check out what they have to say in the video above. Join...
Charlie Manuel and his Phillies insist they're still in the running for another playoff appearance. The problem is that they're not showing it on the field and need to convince their GM that he should buy rather than sell.
During his last four starts, Cole Hamels often looked like an agitated pitcher who seemed a little bit out of sorts. So in the second inning on Tuesday night -- after the left-hander walked opposing pitcher Josh Outman with one out -- there was a sense that it was happening again. At that point, Hamels retreated from the mound and visibly took a deep breath. "You learn...
Denver, CO – Troy Tulowitzki will have surgery today to repair scar tissue around a nerve in his groin. In his Major League career Tulowitzki has already missed 168 games due to injury in a little over 4 seasons with the Colorado Rockies. That is equal to a season and 6 additional games. Tulo can’t … Continue reading »
You cannot replace Troy Tulowitzki. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The following gentlemen may ease the pain of his absence in your lineup, however.

Chris Nelson hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning and Wilin Rosario added a two-run shot in the ninth Thursday night to help the Colorado Rockies snap a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over Philadelphia Phillies.
Josh Roenicke (2-0) pitched 1 1-3 innings in relief of Jeff Francis to earn the victory. Roenicke was one of four Rockies relievers who combined...
William Goldman is a Hollywood screenwriter, who famously wrote in his memoir “Adventures in the Screen Trade,” that “nobody knows anything.” Aside from his movies – “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “The Princess Bride,” “Misery,” - this quote may be his most enduring legacy. What Goldman was referring to, was the often unexplainable and unpredictable...
