TEAMS: Pittsburgh Pirates
Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll. I would like to make it known that I originally posted this poll before the AJ Burnett incident.  Not long after it went up, 3rd was the early leader.  It wasn’t until Burnett broke his face in training that dead last became the predominate choice among the BB&G faithful.  When our first big signing in recent memory gets completely destroyed three minutes after he puts on the uniform, it’s understandable that any grand aspirations we may have been harboring were dashed.  Even so, the season isn’t quite here yet, so we’ll quietly hope that the our prediction does not become true. Meanwhile, NFL free agency begins today at 4pm ET.  It’s not clear the Steelers are gonna make a move, but if they were to, would would you like to see them sign (if any)? MLB 2012 Preview: Pittsburgh Pirates

In 2007 the Pittsburgh Pirates were what the Houston Astros are today. In 2012, they’re in a better place and there’s growing optimism in Pittsburgh. All one has to do is look at the deal they made last week with Andrew McCutchen. At six years, $51 million that may seem like a lot to the ordinary citizen (and you’re not wrong), but in baseball terms this could be as big a...

Pirates 11, Orioles 5

Good win for the Bucs today. At the plate:  Alex Presley, Neil Walker, Garrett Jones, and Josh Harrison had two hits each. One of Harrison’s hits was a triple. He’s hitting .600 (6 for 10) this spring. Pedro Alvarez was 1 for 2 with a walk, strikeout, and sharply hit sacrifice fly. On the mound: James McDonald had a very rough outing, allowing 5 runs in 6 innings. He struggled...

What's going to happen in the bullpen?

Last night, I was reading this article on about Justin Wilson and Evan Meek and it dawned on me that I'm not really sure what the Pirates are going to do with their bullpen this spring. It's not a bad problem; they have quite a few deserving relievers and at least at this point in March, not enough spots to go around. If we assume that the only mortal lock for...

McDonald rocked in win over O’s

Final: Pirates 11, Orioles 5 WP: Tim Wood (1-0, 0.00 ERA) LP: Jim Johnson (0-1, 27.00 ERA) James McDonald started and gave up 5 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings. He gave up home runs to both J.J. Hardy and Mark Reynolds. Joel Hanrahan continued his rampage this spring. He pitched a scoreless frame and struck out 2 batters. He has now struck out 6 through 3 innings of hitless...

Situation Normal?

Last year the Pirates tried to put an end to my relentless attack of literary low blows. Shortly after the All-Star break they were atop the NL Central and my head was appropriately buried in the sand (not kidding; by the way, it sucks.) But then came Jerry Meals’ blown call and down, down, DOWN came the Pirates, settling into yet another comfortably uncomfortable 90 loss season...
