ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Josh Hamilton hit his 32nd homer and drove in three runs, Yu Darvish struck out eight and the Texas Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers 8-3 Sunday. Hamilton had a two-run drive in the first inning to take the major league lead in home runs. He added an RBI single in the third to give him 99 RBIs, which is also tops in baseball. Yu Darvish (12-8) allowed six hits and walked five in 6 2-3 innings. He snapped his two-game losing streak and helped the Rangers take two of three from the Tigers. Miguel Cabrera had a two-run double for the Tigers, who slipped two games behind the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central. Detroit starter Rick Porcello (9-7) gave up nine hits and six runs.

Rangers take series from Tigers

ARLINGTON, Texas August is historically when the Rangers have wilted, but so far this year the dog days have brought back their old bark. Several of the Rangers' upward trends were evident in Sunday's 8-3 win over the Tigers. They got great pitching from a formerly erratic starter, Yu Darvish. They jumped on the Tigers early, building a 6-0 lead after four innings. And...

MLB ready for next "can't miss" rookie?

You might be thinking to yourself that the name "Jurickson Profar" rings a bell. It should. Last month, during the lead up to the MLB trade deadline, the Texas Rangers were looking at a number of candidates to strengthen their team for another World Series push. But Texas held up from making any blockbuster deals because the player ever team wanted in return from the...

Napoli's injury catches Rangers short behind plate

The Texas Rangers have a catching quandary. On Saturday, Mike Napoli headed to the disabled list with a strained quadriceps that has bothered him off and on for weeks. With very little experienced catching in the minors, the club has turned to Luis Martinez as the backup. Martinez was up for a week in July, but was not given an at-bat. He hit .211 with a .614 OPS in 59 at-bats...

Game 2012.116: Tigers at Twins

Detroit Tigers, 61-54, 2nd place, 2 back. Detroit had last night off, instead donning clown suits for a hilarious charity exhibition game. Brennan Boesch was a hit with his huge shoes and big floppy glove, and the performance was capped off by the always funny bit where the whole bullpen piles into a tiny car. Unfortunately, Brayan Villarreal probably shouldn’t have been taking...

Mike Napoli fan gets image of the Rangers catcher shaved into back of his head

We’ve seen fans get images of their favorite athletes shaved into their hair before (see here and here), so it’s not like it’s such a big deal that this guy got Rangers catcher Mike Napoli’s likeness shaved into his head.  Still, you have to admire a person’s level of fandom that they’d be willing to walk around in public with a Napoli haircut for the month or so that...

Manic Monday for Dempster, Rangers

I missed the entire Detroit series (which the Rangers ended up winning) and returned to viewing tonight.  I would like to exchange this game for yesterday’s.  Or maybe Saturday’s.  Yeah, definitely Saturday’s.  I want to see Mike Olt’s walk-off single.  But no.  I didn’t get to see any of that.  Instead, I got bad Ryan Dempster and a mostly flat Rangers offense....

Rangers 2, Tigers 1

Rookie Mike Olt's pinch-hit RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Nelson Cruz with the winning run in the Texas Rangers' 2-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night. Olt drove a 2-2 pitch from Phil Coke past diving third baseman Miguel Cabrera and into left field. Cruz easily beat the throw home. Mike Adams (2-3) escaped a bases-loaded...

Is Josh Hamilton’s Plate Discipline Improving?

After brutal June and July performances, Josh Hamilton has performed well in the first few weeks of August, hitting .320/.382/.580 in 55 trips to the plate. According to both Hamilton and his coaches, the improvement is the direct result of his willingness to finally make adjustments in terms of which pitches to swing at. After months of hacking away at pitches well out of the...

Tigers fall to Rangers on walk-off single

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Rookie Mike Olt's pinch-hit RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Nelson Cruz with the winning run in the Texas Rangers' 2-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night. Olt drove a 2-2 pitch from Phil Coke past diving third baseman Miguel Cabrera and into left field. Cruz easily beat the throw home. Cruz and Michael...

Three-Quarter Fantasy MVPs

Remember when Matt Kemp was tearing up the league in April, and everyone who didn't have a top-three pick was upset they never had the chance to draft him? And then it was Josh Hamilton ? on pace for 100 home runs and 1,000 RBI through the end of May. Now it's Mike Trout who despite wasting three weeks in the minors leads the majors in runs scored with 80 and steals with...
