This afternoon's opening day game brought with it Johan Santana's first start in more than eighteen months. Johan was successful and efficient early before laboring in the fifth and getting a tapper back to the mound to get out of a bases loaded jam. Santana finished with five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits while walking two and striking out five.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Torres worked out a walk and was promptly driven to third on a Daniel Murphy single down the right field line. David Wright then sent a ground ball through the left side driving in the first run of the season with an RBI single.

The top of the seventh saw Braves' rookie shortstop Tyler Pastornicky hit a one out liner into right center-field that was misjudged by Andres Torres and rolled to the wall for a triple. On the play, Torres reinjured his calf and immediately left the game. Tim Byrdak came in to save the day getting the final two outs of the inning by way of strike out.

After a rough spring, Jon Rauch threw a scoreless eighth inning. The Mets threatened to add some insurance runs in the bottom of the frame, loading the bases for Lucas Duda, but he went on the strike out on three pitches.  Frank Francisco entered to close out the game in the ninth, pitching a one-two-three inning to seal the 1-0 win for the Mets and earn his first save of the season.

The Mets are now 1-0 on the season.

Game Notes:
- David Wright, Daniel Murphy and Josh Thole all had multi-hit afternoons.
- The Mets are now 33-10 in their last 43 opening day games.
- Despite an announced attendance of 42,080, the largest crowd ever at Citi Field, there were plenty of empty seats throughout the stadium.
- The Mets revealed a replica of the Gary Carter Patch that will hang on the left center-field wall for the foreseeable future. The ceremony, which was well received by seemingly everyone, concluded with members of Carter's family throwing out the first pitch.

Next Game: Saturday at 1:10pm when RA Dickey (0-0) takes the mound against Jair Jurrjens (0-0)
