Found December 04, 2011 on Phuture Phillies:
We’ve already been over who the Phillies have protected and left unprotected here. Jiwan James is the big name the Phillies are hoping to sneak through. The Phillies have been very active in recent years, always selecting at least one guy, and in the last two seasons, they’ve kept their guy (Mini Mart, Herndon) the full season and retained them moving forward, so you can assume they will take someone again this year. If they do, here are my suggestions for guys they should look at. Bryce Stowell, RHP (CLE) – Stowell has a big arm, as he used to consistently sit in the high 90s, but has had some injury trouble recently and is now down in the 92-95 range consistently. Still, if he’s past his injury issues, he has a special arm and could fit in well in the middle of the bullpen. Like we saw with Herndon, stashing a reliever as your 25 man is pretty easy. The Phillies will have competition in the bullpen, and Stowell could fit in there. Over the last 2 seasons between A+/AA/AAA he’s put...

SAFE: Charlie Manuel can slide Mayberry Jr. into the lineup in left field or first base. The Philadelphia Phillies have been courting Minnesota outfielder Michael Cuddyer for a few months now.  In fact, one of the “jobs” for new Phillies first baseman-pinch hitter Jim Thome was to help sell Philadelphia to Cuddyer. But, despite the Phillies seeming best efforts, Cuddyer is yet...

Three Free Agents Who Would Solidify Roster

Ryan Madson would be a good choice to take over the closer role As a relatively small market team, the Reds don't have the luxury of splurging on salaries. Unlike the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies or Cubs, they can ill afford to be handcuffed by outrageous contracts owed to players. One bad contract decision could set the franchise back for years, so naturally each contract...

Phillies Are Strong Players For Aramis Ramirez

The Phillies are strong players for free agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez, tweets Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post.  A week ago, Ramirez's agent Paul Kinzer named the Angels as one of four or five teams with serious interest in his client.  Kinzer said in November that Ramirez seeks a four-year deal or three-year contract with an option. The Phillies have third baseman...

The Phillies are actively trying to trade third baseman Placido Polanco, a rival executive tells Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.  That'd open up third base for free agent Aramis Ramirez, for whom the Phillies are reportedly strong players.  Polanco, 36, is owed $7.25MM through 2012. Placido Polanco

I mentioned this briefly on twitter, but Ken Rosenthal reported that the Phillies are actively trying to move Placido Polanco to free up room to make a run at Aramis Ramirez. If the Phillies are heavily motivated to move Polanco, he’s a guy who could make sense for the M’s. With Seager and Liddi around, the team has a couple of interesting young players that could potentially...
