Damon rips Rays for not showing any loyalty. Seriously.
Our old friend turned hated enemy Johnny Damon is not pleased with the Tampa Bay Rays. Damon believed that he was going to return to Tampa but the Rays went in another direction signing designated hitter Luke Scott to a one year deal plus a team option. This blindsided Damon who then said the following (via text) to Tampa Bay Times writer Marc Topkin:

Damon a possibility for Yanks
The Yankees are currently exploring DH options, and one name that has come up is Johnny Damon. A reunion with Damon could give the Yankees stability at an affordable price.
Nevin Ashley Removed From 40-Man Roster
The Rays designated catcher Nevin Ashley for assignment today, removing him from the 40-man roster. The move was necessary to open a spot for Luke Scott.
In all likelihood, we haven’t seen the end of Nevin, or his wife Ashley Ashley. Chances are he will clear waivers and accept an assignment to Durham with an invitation to spring training.

Report: Orioles Interested in Johnny Damon
If a recent report is accurate, Johnny Damon could eventually continue to work his way through the American League East. According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Orioles are interested in the two-time All-Star. Damon, of course, played for the Red Sox from 2002-2005, before moving on to the Yankees from 2006-2008. After a quick stop in Detroit in 2010, Damon played for the Rays...
Flair, Faith, and the Zen of Zobrist
There are very few Rays players more fascinating than Ben Zobrist. We in the Rays community know his story: marginally successful utility player tinkers with his swing and becomes one of the most under the radar versatile all-round all-stars in baseball today. I’ve even written about Zobrist before in regards to his fan base.
The problem with Zobrist is that he has a low “gut...

Off-Season (click image for random Wikipedia page)
According to Marc Topkin, Joe Maddon’s contract talks are “progressing.”
Maddon is in the final year of a contract that will pay him approximately $1.3 million in 2012. And like the Rays key players, Maddon is due for a significant raise.
We have speculated previously that Maddon’s next deal will probably...

Wade Boggs Got Drunk (Again), Sang Poorly (Probably Again)
Wade Boggs likes to drink beer. He likes to drink a LOT of beer.
[Seriously, if you have never read the story about Boggs and drinking 70 beers, go read it right now, we'll wait]
Anyway, Boggs recently had a drink or 30 in a Key Largo bar and decided to get in touch with his inner-Garth. Brooks, that is. Yes folks, this is the only Rays player to ever have his number retired...

The signing of free agent Luke Scott prompted the Rays to make a corresponding roster move on Friday. The team announced that Minor League catcher Nevin Ashley has been designated for assignment. The 27-year-old Ashley was one of five catchers on Tampa Bay's 40-man roster.
