Now that the match-up is set, fans in the Bay Area can make their World Series plans, and in many cases buy up some pricey World Series tickets.
Currently, San Francisco Giants World Series tickets are averaging $1,094 per seat, 42% more expensive than the $773 average for tickets in Detroit. This is mostly due to games 6 and 7 which are averaging a hefty $1,397 each, 67% higher than the $839 average for games 1 and 2.
Prices are actually less expensive than they were two years ago when the Giants beat the Rangers in the 2010 fall classic. Ticket prices for games in San Francisco in 2010 averaged $1,375 per seat, 25% more expensive than this year’s games.
On the the more affordable end, the average get-in price for games in San Francisco is $436, and as low as $316 for Game 1 tickets, which is the lowest get-in price of the series.
Also, contrary to what many would have expected, after punching their World Series ticket yesterday, prices did not start to go up. In fact, over the last week, Game 1 tickets are down 50%, Game 2 tickets are down 40%, and prices for games 6 and 7 are down 20% and 12%, respectively.

Anyone who attends sporting events are already well aware that the cost of parking one’s vehicle nearby the stadium is borderline ludicrous and oftentimes highway robbery. Still, as the photo above abundantly illustrates, combining a big-time event like the World Series with limited parking space in an urban area along with an early local start [...]
The following sentence was buried at the bottom of Nick Cafardo’s Sunday notes column in the Boston Globe:
Tim Lincecum, RHP, Giants — He will be available in trade, and it will be interesting to see who bites on the two-time Cy Young winner.
Next season will be the last under Lincecum’s current contract with the Giants. Last winter, he signed a 2-year/$40.5 million deal with...
The Giants have forced a Game Seven, thanks to phenomenal starts from Barry Zito and Ryan Vogelsong.
Zito, up against one of the best offenses the National League has seen in recent years, a lineup that’s been especially tough on left-handed pitching, more than held his own. For nearly eight innings, with everything on the line, he silenced the Cardinals on their own territory...
Madison Bumgarner will pitch Game 2 of the World Series for San Francisco on Thursday, giving the Giants back-to-back lefties after Barry Zito goes in the opener against the Detroit Tigers.
Righty Ryan Vogelsong will pitch Game 3 and Matt Cain will go in Game 4. Two-time NL Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum will remain in the bullpen, providing options.
The Giants are still finalizing...
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Marco Scutaro looked up through the pouring rain, caught Matt Holliday's popup for the final out and punched his ticket to the World Series for the first time at age 36.
In an NL championship series that saw Scutaro absorb a hard and admitted late slide from Holliday that strained the second baseman's left hip, what a fitting ending.
Scutaro tied the...
San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval became the fourth player to hit three home runs in a World Series game.
Sandoval connected twice off Detroit ace Justin Verlander and then in the fifth inning against reliever Al Alburquerque in Game 1 of the Series to join Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson and Albert Pujols as the only players with three homers in a World Series game. Ruth did it in 1926...

Pablo Sandoval became just the fourth player to hit three home runs in a World Series game, connecting twice against Justin Verlander and once off Al Alburquerque to boost the San Francisco Giants into a 6-1 lead over the Detroit Tigers after six innings of Wednesday night's opener.
Sandoval hit a solo home run to right-center in the first, a two-run, opposite-field drive to...
At this point the slide may be forgotten. In Game Two of the National League Championship Series, Matt Holliday of the St. Louis Cardinals slid hard into the San Francisco Giants' Marco Scutaro. The slide caused Scutaro's body to bend at an awkward angle and looked as if it may have hurt his right leg. It turned out, Scutaro had injured his hip. He had tried to...
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Hunter Pence hit a bizarre, two-run double, Matt Cain pitched his second clincher of October and the San Francisco Giants won their record-tying sixth elimination game of the postseason, beating the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 in Game 7 of the NL championship series Monday night.
Marco Scutaro matched an LCS record with 14 hits in...
The Giants are headed to the World Series after winning a record six straight elimination games.Matt Cain had taken the role as the ace of the Giants staff so it was fitting that the team had him on the mound in a decisive Game 7 at AT&T park. Not only was Cain helping the Giants cause on the mound but he also contributed with his bat in the second inning. Cain singled in Gregor...
As the 2012 World Series kicks off tonight, if course there has been a lot of discussion about the two participants. Coming into this season, the Tigers would be considered the favorite. But, the Giants had more regular season wins (91-88) and they also have homefield advantage because of the National League’s victory in this year’s All Star Game. Of course, the NL got their...
