AAA: INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS Box Score Result: Rochester 9, Indianapolis 7 Starting Pitcher: Brandon Cumpton, RHP (4-5, 3.71) – 5.0 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 0 HR Top Hitter: Josh Harrison, 2B (.316) – 4-for-5, 2 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, SB Other Notable Performers: Andrew Lambo, 1B (.283) – 3-for-5, HR, 3 RBI Alex Presley, CF (.290) – 2-for-5, 2B Game Notes: Andrew Lambo hit his 20th homer of the year tonight, which was his second homer in as many games, and his fifth homer in the last ten games. In 16 games with Indianapolis, Lambo has a .283/.362/.667 line in 60 at-bats, with six homers. Josh Harrison has been on a hot streak in June, hitting for a .356/.385/.654 line in 104 at-bats. With Tony Sanchez expected to be sent down, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Harrison coming up to join the Pirates on Friday. Brandon Cumpton gave up four earned runs in 10 innings in two starts in the majors. In his first start back with Indianapolis he struggled, giving up five earned runs in five innings.   AA: ALTOONA CURVE    Game One Box Score Result: New Britain 9, Altoona 2 Starting Pitcher: Casey Sadler, RHP (7-5, 3.28) – 2.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 HR Top Hitter: Carlos Paulino, C (.236) – 2-for-4, RBI Other Notable Performers: Nick Kingham, RHP (3.50) – 6.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 0 HR Game Notes: Altoona was suspended after two innings yesterday with Casey Sadler on the mound. The game resumed today, and Nick Kingham took over, as he was the regularly scheduled starter today. Kingham went six strong innings, and now has a 3.50 ERA in 18 innings over three starts, with an 18:5 K/BB ratio. Earlier today I talked about Kingham’s progression, and questioned whether his ceiling should still be as a number three starter, or if he could develop into a top of the rotation guy. Game Two Box Score Result: New Britain 6, Altoona 3 Starting Pitcher: Kenn Kasparek, RHP (3-2, 4.86) – 1.0 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR Top Hitter: Adalberto Santos, LF (.274) – 1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI Other Notable Performers: Charlie Cutler, C (.316) – 3-for-3, BB Nate Baker, LHP (10.04) – 4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 0 HR Game Notes: Adalberto Santos hit his fifth homer of the year for Altoona. After Kenn Kasparek gave up six earned runs in the first inning, Nate Baker and Jhonathan Ramos came on to pitch six shutout innings, combining for two walks, two hits, and seven strikeouts. For those of you wondering where Gregory Polanco has been, he is expected to return to the field tomorrow, according to Bill Brink. Polanco, who hurt his left shoulder diving for a ball and hasn't played since Sat., will play Thurs., he and mgr. Carlos Garcia said. — Bill Brink (@BrinkPG) June 26, 2013   A+: BRADENTON MARAUDERS   Box Score Result: Charlotte 3, Bradenton 2 Starting Pitcher: Joely Rodriguez, LHP (0-1, 4.35) – 5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 0 HR Top Hitter: Jose Osuna, 1B (.246) – 2-for-3, 2B, BB Other Notable Performers: Willy Garcia, RF (.252) – 1-for-4, 2B Ryan Beckman, RHP (5.91) – 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 0 HR Game Notes: Joely Rodriguez made his second start since being promoted. He has a 4.35 ERA in 10.1 innings, with a 4:2 K/BB ratio in those two starts. Willy Garcia continued to hit, and now has three doubles in the last four games, and five extra base hits in his last five games. Garcia had a .333/.385/.667 line in 72 at-bats coming into June.   A: WEST VIRGINIA POWER Box Score Result: West Virginia 7, Hagerstown 6 Starting Pitcher: John Kuchno, RHP (5.02) – 5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 0 HR Top Hitter: Barrett Barnes, CF (.262) – 2-for-6, HR Other Notable Performers: Eric Wood, DH (.249) – 2-for-4, SB Max Moroff, SS (.242) – 2-for-5, 2B, 3 RBI Game Notes: Barrett Barnes hit his third homer in the last week, and also his third homer of the season. Barnes is 16-for-49 (.327) in his last ten games, with three doubles and three homers. Max Moroff has been hot lately, going 11-for-33 (.333) with six doubles in his last ten games. He had a .915 OPS in the month of June heading into tonight’s game. John Kuchno has given up eight earned runs in eight innings over his last two starts.   A-: JAMESTOWN JAMMERS   Box Score Result: Batavia 4, Jamestown 3 Starting Pitcher: Jackson Lodge, LHP (7.00) – 5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 2 HR Top Hitter: Yhonathan Barrios, 2B (.222) – 2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, BB Other Notable Performers: Jared Lakind, LHP (0.00) – 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 0 HR Harold Ramirez, RF (.242) – 1-for-4 Jin-De Jhang, C (.259) – 1-for-3, BB, RBI Game Notes: Chad Kuhl was originally scheduled to start tonight’s game, but the 2013 9th round pick was recently placed on the disabled list. Jackson Lodge took his place and gave up two runs in five innings, both on solo homers. Jared Lakind made his debut as a pitcher, throwing a scoreless inning. Lakind was drafted in 2010 out of high school as a first baseman. He was also a lefty who could hit 90 MPH that year, and after struggling at first base the Pirates moved him to the mound. Yhonathan Barrios hit his first homer of the year. It’s also the first homer he has hit in the NYPL, after 138 at-bats at the level last year.   RK: GCL PIRATES   Box Score Result: Phillies 5, Pirates 0 Starting Pitcher: Wei-Chung Wang, LHP (0-2, 5.19) – 4.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 0 HR Top Hitter: Luis Urena, RF (.350) – 3-for-4 Other Notable Performers: Candon Myles, LF (.588) – 2-for-4 Maximo Rivera, 1B (.333) – 2-for-4, SB Game Notes: In two starts, Wei-Chung Wang has been pretty dominating. He has given up five earned runs in 8.2 innings, most of which came in his final inning in his first start. However, he has 12 strikeouts and no walks in that span. I talked to a scout last week who saw the potential for him to be a major leaguer, with three average pitches or better, highlighted by a very good breaking ball. Luis Urena now has a .350 average and an .881 OPS in 20 at-bats. Unfortunately he also has nine strikeouts. Candon Myles is 10-for-17 at the plate, although he only has one extra base hit. He might eventually make a case for himself to play in Jamestown, although he’d find more playing time in the GCL.
