He ran in to some trouble in the fifth, giving up his other two runs, then was pulled early in the sixth with two on. Nathan Baker stranded the runners, then held Bowie to one run over the final three innings, while giving up four walks. Drew Maggi is 12-for-40 in his last ten games. Quincy Latimore is hitting for a .355 average and a 1.074 OPS in his last ten games.

A+: BRADENTON MARAUDERS

Jason Townsend, RHP (5-2, 2.40) – 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 0 HR

Game Notes: With Bradenton down two starters in the last few weeks (Colton Cain and Tyler Waldron), Kenn Kasparek made his second start. This one went much better than his last outing. Jason Townsend picked up the win with 3.1 shutout innings. He now has a 2.40 ERA in 63.2 innings, with a 39:21 K/BB ratio. Bradenton won thanks to Elevys Gonzalez hitting a go ahead homer in the top of the 11th inning. Alex Dickerson is hitting for a .368/.442/.500 line in his last ten games, and has four multi-hit games in his last five contests.

A: WEST VIRGINIA POWER

Box Score

Result: Lexington 6, West Virginia 3

Starting Pitcher: Zack Von Rosenberg, RHP (3-5, 4.94) – 5.0 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 HR

Top Hitter: Willy Garcia, RF (.255) – 2-for-4

Other Notable Performers

Gregory Polanco, CF (.327) – 1-for-2, BB

Game Notes: Von Rosenberg was hit around for the second start in a row. He struck out  season high seven batters. He’s been hot or cold this year. In four starts he’s been hammered, and in the other eight starts he’s held opponents to two or fewer runs. Willy Garcia continued his hitting, and now has a .318 average and a .924 OPS in 22 at-bats during August.

A-: STATE COLLEGE SPIKES

Box Score

Result: Batavia 6, State College 3

RK: GCL PIRATES

Box Score

Result: Braves 8, Pirates 2

Starting Pitcher: Cesar Lopez, RHP (2-2, 4.54) – 3.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 1 HR

Top Hitter: Luis Urena, RF (.223) – 1-for-3, 2B

Other Notable Performers

Wyatt Mathisen, C (.292) – 1-for-3

Game Notes: A lot of the GCL guys have been slumping lately. Dilson Herrera has a .610 OPS in his last ten games. Harold Ramirez has a .588 OPS in his last ten. Stetson Allie went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts today, and has a .619 OPS in his last ten games. Wyatt Mathisen has a .678 OPS in his last ten.  Traditionally the GCL is an extreme pitcher’s league, so it’s hard to get a good feel for this kind of thing. Alen Hanson slumped in the second half last year after getting off to a hot start at the plate. Part of that was due to an injury, but the huge playing fields couldn’t have helped.
