The Los Angeles Angels will be without their most dangerous hitter, but probably not for long. Albert Pujols left Wednesday's game in the fourth inning with a right calf injury. He underwent an MRI exam Thursday that revealed only inflammation and no structural damage. He was not in the starting lineup Thursday but could be back in the lineup as soon as Friday. "It's feeling way better today," Pujols said Thursday before the Angels rallied to beat the Red Sox 14-13 in 10 innings. "I'm walking better, and I have some strength back. "Hopefully, it's nothing too bad. Just day to day." An extended absence would put a large hole in the middle of the Angels' lineup. Pujols has hit home runs in four of his past eight home runs, and he has 14 homers since the All-Star break (the most in the majors). He's compiled a .747 slugging percentage over his past 21 games. Since his horrible start hit rock bottom on May 5 with a .190 averag...

When the Angels acquired Zack Greinke from the Brewers on July 27, in a move that would supposedly bolster an already-solid rotation, manager Mike Scioscia had no idea that his pitching staff was about to take a severe turn for the worse. Prior to the All-Star break, the Angels had the sixth-lowest ERA in all of Major League Baseball. Since then, they've had the second-highest...

Washing Off the Stink of Mike Trout

You can’t swing a laptop by its power cable without hitting some article about how great Mike Trout has been this season, and how such a performance from a rookie is so extremely rare. Since his call-up in late April and his subsequent tear through the American League, Trout has been a fantastic story. I get interested about a lot of things during the baseball season, but very...

Bizarre win gives Angels a sweep in Boston

Exhilarating -- and exhausting. If you were looking for the right words to describe the Angels' game Thursday night at Boston, those would fit. But there was also something frustrating and almost deflating about they way they hung on to beat the Red Sox 14-13 in 10 innings for a three-game sweep at Fenway Park.
