Carlos Quentin would like to hear what the still undetermined new owners of the Padres have in mind before he is moved out of San Diego. Right now, the speculation in baseball is that the Padres' left fielder will have a new home before the trade deadline. But Quentin said on Tuesday afternoon that he wouldn't mind remaining a Padre -- this season and beyond. "I don't really have a say in whether or not I'm traded, but a lot of things I'm seeing here are really positive," Quentin said. "I'm definitely open to talking about a future with the Padres. I'd be open to discussing that. I like the environment here. I like what Bud (Black), his staff, the training staff are doing. I appreciate where they want to go." Of course, the Padres are for sale. And the future of players and staff might ultimately be in the hands of people not currently involved with the Padres. "I don't control what the Padres might decide," s...

Padres ball girl makes a great catch on a foul ball

With the worst record (24-46) and some of the worst talent in baseball, the San Diego Padres are barely above a AAA team.  Pads fans need to check their expectations at the Petco gate when attending games for the most talent they’ll see if from the opposing team.  In this case, it wasn’t the opposing team, the defending American League champ Texas Rangers making a highlight...

Hundley's true value is behind the plate

Although Nick Hundley continues to struggle at the plate, San Diego Padres left-handed starter Clayton Richard says his importance behind the plate cannot be measured in hits. "Nick did the best job handling me today since we've been together," Richard said Sunday after shutting out the Oakland A's on five hits and two walks over 7 23 innings in a 2-1 Padres victory...

Padres' Bass exits with inflamed shoulder

The San Diego Padres might have lost another starting pitcher Wednesday. Right-hander Anthony Bass departed his start against the Texas Rangers after five solid innings and 60 pitches with an inflamed right shoulder. The severity of Bass' injury was unknown, and the pitcher will meet with team physicians Thursday, although no MRI is planned. "Hopefully, this is just...

Marquis reaches milestone in Monday's start

Jason Marquis reached a milestone Monday night at Petco Park. With his fourth strikeout of the game, Marquis reached 1,000 strikeouts in his career. And he kept going, finishing with 10 strikeouts against the Texas Rangers. Marquis became the first Padres pitcher to record 10 strikeouts this season. The last one to do it was left-hander Wade LeBlanc, who struck out 10 Dodgers last...

San Diego Padres ball girl makes amazing foul ball catch, Dick Enberg approves (Video)

Back on Wednesday afternoon, a San Diego Padres ball girl named Lisa made an incredible catch of a foul ball hit by Padres infielder Yonder Alonso. Watch as she is able to reach over the railing to snag it with her glove and ultimately earn the congratulations of Padres play-by-play man, Dick Enberg who belts out a "Hubba Hubba": Your browser does not support...

Daily Friar 6.19.12

Oh Padres, how you frustrate me so. When your pitcher can go into the seventh inning and strike out ten guys you expect to be in a position to win the game. This was the case last night, minus the winning part of it. Again the Padres' horrendous RISP numbers continue to build. 1-9 again last night, which is a .111 average just for the night. This trend needs to stop. This isn...

MadFriars' Farm Report June 18

We knew Andrew Cashner could be dominate. If Cashner can continue to put up numbers like he did today (5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 9 K), he will be back in San Diego in the next few weeks. The Ems also took their 1st series of the year.

Hamren proud of Sweden despite bowing out

Rangers 4, Padres 2

Yu Darvish settled down to hold San Diego to five hits over eight innings and got his first major league hit to help the Texas Rangers beat the San Diego Padres 4-2 on Wednesday for their sixth straight win. Darvish (9-4), who struck out eight and walked three, leads all big league rookies with nine victories. He pitched for Japan at Petco Park in the 2009 World Baseball Classic...

Daily Friar 6.21.12

It probably comes to no surprise that the Padres were swept by the Rangers. When the best team in baseball goes against the worst there is no denying that it is bound to go the way of the better team. But wouldn’t it have been awesome if we could have given them a commanding defeat? Of course I am dreaming, but it would have been great. As it is we have the day off today and wait...

Mariners-Padres Preview

While they have the worst record in the majors, the San Diego Padres bested the Seattle Mariners last week in a matchup between last-place teams. The Padres hope for similar success against the Mariners at Petco Park, where the two begin a three-game series Friday night. San Diego earned its only sweep this season in Seattle last week. Padres starters went 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA,...

Padres could build around Quentin

Many in the industry expect that the Padres will trade left fielder Carlos Quentin, but the team is in such a fluid position, no assumption is safe. I've mentioned a few times recently that the Padres might be forced to move Quentin if they are not under new ownership before the July 31 non-waiver deadline. I might have spoken too soon. True, Quentin is a potential free agent...

Mariners vs. Padres In San Diego: Pitching, series preview, analysis & predictions

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Danny Ferguson reports on the Mariners series matchup with the San Diego Padres. Ryan Vogelsong (5-2 2.26 ERA) takes on Jason Vargas (7-5 3.90 ERA) in the series opener. The offensive woes of the Mariners are not likely to get better with this match up. Game 2, Felix Hernandez on the mound. One game he looks dominate, the next he seems to struggle.
