Jose Quintana was strong yet again and the White Sox rediscovered the long ball on Friday night. Jeff Keppinger and Adam Dunn homered and Quintana delivered 6 2/3 well-pitched innings as the White Sox snapped a 10-game road losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. Dayan Viciedo also singled in two runs in his return to the lineup as the White Sox won for the first time away from U.S. Cellular Field since July 13 in Philadelphia. Quintana pitched out of key trouble spot in the third inning and didn’t look back as he finished with seven strikeouts. “Q was good” manager Robin Ventura said. “He used a lot of pitches. You had a lot of guys fouling off a lot of pitches. He had the one at-bat with (Ryan) Doumit that lasted what a normal inning would last. He kind of gutted it out and went extra long for us tonight.” Holding a 4-1 lead the left-hander ended a 12-pitch bases-loaded showdown with Doumit with a strikeout as he threw an offspeed pitch on a full count and got a called third strike. Ventura said it was a “gutsy” pitch from a “gutsy kid.” The left-hander then retired 11 of the final 14 batters he faced. Quintana (7-4) allowed two earned runs and six hits and he walked two batters. “(Doumit) just kept fouling everything off” Quintana said through a translator. “Finally I was able to get him off. But it was a tough out and luckily I got out of it in a good way.”
