“We’re very interested in retaining Jose Reyes,” Sandy Alderson said tonight on a conference call with team bloggers. “We’re sincere in our desire to have him back.” Earlier today, WFAN’s Rich Coutinho said Alderson and Jose’s representatives have a ‘gentleman’s agreement,’ which states that, once Jose receives all of his offers, the Mets will be given a chance to talk to him about a long-term contract. However, Alderson said on the conference call tonight, “It has never been my understanding that we would not negotiate until he had made all his rounds, until he got a good offer from somebody else, and then we got a chance to match it or get a discount from it. That’s never been my understanding.”’s Jon Heyman has also said the Mets feel Reyes will come back to them when he has an offer he likes from another team. “I do believe that if Jose really wants to be in New York after everything is said and done, he’ll talk to us,” Alderson said on the conference call to

Jose Reyes to Detroit Talk Heating Up!

The Detroit Tigers and GM Dave Dombrowski may be working on a deal of getting free agent Jose Reyes to Detroit according to MLive writer James Schmehl in this article. This is exactly what I have been hoping for this off season and bringing in a player like Reyes is exactly what the Tigers need to become an elite team in the 2012 season. Jose Reyes would fill so many of the Tigers...

Sandy Alderson On If Jose Reyes Is A Franchise Player

Last night, Sandy Alderson hosted a conference call with a few Mets bloggers that was by far the best one I ever participated in. We had some great questions from everyone and Sandy, who was very cordial, took his time and answered all of our questions concisely and proficiently. The tone of the call was kind of upbeat and it was interesting to hear how passionate everyone was about...

For Mets, Reyes' decision will shape Meetings

The Mets have spent so much of this offseason waiting. They have waited for Jose Reyes to shop his services around to their rivals. They have waited for the market for free-agent relievers to define itself. They have waited for Reyes and other factors to define their shrinking budget.

Alderson On Reyes: I Only Know What I Read In The Papers
