It was rumored that star New York Yankees closer Rafael Soriano would opt out of his deal. Well, it finally happened. According to ESPN New York, Soriano has opted out of the final season of his three-year deal he signed with the Yankees, making him a free agent and leaving New York without a closer. Soriano’s agent, Scott Boras, had been saying for a while that he was planning to have Soriano opt out of his deal. Had he stayed, he would have been making $14 million next season, but he wants more. The Yankees will try hard to bring him back, but that’s only if Mariano Rivera plans on retiring. Soriano did well filling in for Rivera when he went down with injury back in May, saving 42 games out of the 45 opportunities he had. We’ll see what the Yankees will do now after this recent news.
