B.J. Rosenberg stood on the mound surrounded by Nationals, bases loaded with the team from Washington up 2-1. On three straight sliders, Rosenberg struck out Ryan Zimmerman and the Phillies went to the eight down 2-1. With two outs, center fielder Cesar Hernandez walked and Jimmy Rollins smacked the eighth pitch he saw for an RBI double off of Tyler Clippard. After an intentional walk to Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz drove in Rollins from second to put the Phillies ahead 3-2. Jonathan Papelbon struck out Wilson Ramos and Anthony Rendon with runners on first and third to earn his 24th save of the year. Positioned to Win The Phillies would have never been in a position to win tonight’s game had it not been for yet another quality start from Cole Hamels. It was Hamels 21st quality start of 2013, tying him for third in the Majors, behind only Clayton Kershaw and Adam Wainwright.
