Ex-Pitcher Kurt Ainsworth, is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana (the 2nd largest city in the state). Ainsworth went to Catholic High, played as if he were Saint Kurt, himself and went on to play for the Louisiana State University baseball team. The 6-3 RHP became a force in the SEC and ended up as the 24th overall selection to the San Francisco Giants in the 1999 MLB Draft, where he reportedly signed for $1,300,000.

Ainsworth quickly worked his way through the San Fran farm system. In Low-A he posted a 1.61 ERA, and had 64 SO in just 44.2 IP (12.9 K/rate). In 2000 Baseball America ranked Kurt the #58 prospect; he went 10-9 with a 3.30 ERA in his 28 starts in AA. In the 2000 summer he helped Team USA win the Gold Medal in Sidney, transcending him up BA top 100 ranks where he splashed at the #30 spot, as experts were highly anticipating his big break into the Giants rotation. Ainsworth ended up making the show, but only appeared in the bullpen where he landed a 13.50 ERA. The next year the righty got back on track in his 4 starts going 1-2 with a 2.10 ERA. In 2003, his last season with the Giants, Ainsworth went 5-4 with a 3.82 ERA before being traded to the Baltimore Orioles along with Ryan Hannaman and Damian Moss for Sidney Ponson.

Ainsworth got 7 starts as an O, which totaled for 0 wins.  The next season he tore his labrum and rotator cuff and missed the entire season. He was prepared to make a comeback with the Dodgers, but that didn’t work out so well, and he was forced to call it a career.

The highly touted 4-time Baseball America ranked prospect went 6-8 with a 5.19 ERA in the show.
