Shannon Stewart was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 25th 1974…but you probably already knew that. Stewart was drafted out of high school in the first round (19th pick) by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1992 draft. Three years later Shannon made his debut for the Jays. For his first three seasons he didn’t get very many at bats, but in 1998 he started to become a solid role player (stole 51 bags). For the next four consecutive seasons with the Blue Jays Shannon Stewart hit over .300. In 2000 he showed off his power by hitting 21 bombs (career high).
Stewart was traded to the Minnesota Twins for Bobby Kielty. In his first season with the Twins he hit for a career high .322 BA. His success at the top of the lineup helped bring the Twins to the postseason in 2003 and 2004. Stewart continued to hit well, but like most random athletes lost a lot of his power towards the end of his career.
After the Twins, Shannon signed with the A’s in 2007. He showed some of his old power with 12 homeruns for the one season he played in Oakland. The next season he went back to the Blue Jays where he struggled and was unable to recover. Shannon was in the Minors for a little bit but couldn’t make it back to the bigs, he lost his power, and his speed. His last season was at the ripe age of 34 in 2008.
Shannon in his career made $34,596,499. In ten years with the Jays he made over $15,000,000 and in only four years with the Twins he earned $18,000,000.
