Someone finally took advantage of the short right-field wall at the Alamodome when Leury Garcia lined a three-run homer over the 285-foot sign to lead the Texas Rangers past the San Diego Padres 5-2 on Saturday. The Rangers swept both games played in the Alamodome, which is designed primarily for football and special events such as the NCAA Final Four but had not hosted baseball until this weekend. A crowd of 40,569 pushed San Antonio's two-day total to 75,210. Texas opens the regular season Sunday night in Houston against a new AL West rival in the Astros. San Diego travels to New York to face the Mets on Monday.

Rangers GM pleased with Borbon's progress

HOUSTON Julio Borbon still has a fan in the Texas Rangers organization in general manager Jon Daniels. That doesn't mean that Borbon will still be with the club April 9 when they have to make a roster move for fifth starter Nick Tepesch. Borbon is out of options and the club would have to expose him to waivers if they try to send him to the minors to clear room for Tepesch...

Borbon nabs roster spot with Rangers

SAN ANTONIO Julio Borbon is the 25th man on the Texas Rangers roster at least for now. Borbon, who is out of options, nabbed the final rosters spot for Texas over relievers Josh Lindblom and Cory Burns. Both Burns and Lindblom will start the season at Triple A Round Rock. Texas will carry 11 pitchers to start the season and just four starters. The Rangers won't need a fifth...

And the Winner Is? Tyson Ross

Spring 2013 The San Diego Padres end their Spring Training marathon with the announcement of Right-hander Tyson Ross as their 5th starter. The 25 yr old, a 2nd round 2008 draftee of the Oakland Athletics, was acquired by the Padres in a trade with the A’s last November. The Padres sent utility infielder Andy Parrino and pitcher Andrew Werner to the A’s. Drafted at 6′ -5 ...

Top 10 Padres Storylines I’m Rooting For in 2013

The 2013 season is upon us and as our Padres prepare to take the field against the Mets I decided to look at 2013 with my rose colored glasses on and pinpoint some storylines I am optimistically looking forward to this year. 10.  A win against the Dodgers at the home opener 9.  Nick Hundley returning to his 2011 form. 8.  The debuts of Robbie Erlin, Donn Roach, and Keyvius Sampson...

Knowing the competition: Texas Rangers

Darvish went 8.1 innings while striking out 10 in his only career start against the Yankees.   Threat Level: 8 The Rangers lost Josh Hamilton, arguably their best player, in the offseason, but expectations are still high for them. They were not that busy in the offseason in acquiring players, as Lance Berkman and A.J. Pierzynski were their only major acquisitions, but the team still...

Lone Star Dugout Q&A: Keith Comstock (Part 1)

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Texas Rangers have had a stable of talented pitchers rehabbing at their spring training complex in recent months, including Martin Perez, Sam Stafford, and Justin Miller. Lone Star Dugout discussed those three players with Rangers rehab pitching coordinator Keith Comstock in part one of this two-part interview.

Fans Have Mixed Reactions As Opening Day Approaches

The combination of a 4th place finish and a very quiet off-season has left Padres fans divided.  As the founder of this website, it is frustrating that the fan base is so down on the season, but I can’t blame them.  Bad trades, questionable moves, injuries, and watching the Dodgers and Giants continue to separate have taken a toll on the fan base. The biggest headlines this season...

Elvis Andrus, Texas Ranger

The Texas Rangers have the best prospect in baseball, a 20-year-old shortstop named Jurickson Profar who the public projection systems think could be a league average player in the big leagues right now. He’s going to start the year in Triple-A, though, as neither middle infield position is currently available in Arlington, with Elvis Andrus and Ian Kinsler currently entrenched...

Season Preview: Texas Rangers

After squeeking into the post-season, the Rangers had some serious issues to deal with – Josh Hamilton leaving, missing Zack Greinke, changing the role of Nolan Ryan. Will the team make it back to October baseball? Key Losses: Mike Adams, RHP (Phillies, Free Agent) Ryan Dempster, RHP (Red Sox, Free Agent) Scott Feldman, RHP (Cubs, Free Agent) Josh Hamilton, OF (Angels, Free Agent...

Daily Friar 3.30.13

This is it Padre fans, the final tune up before the regular season begins. The Padres are in San Antonio right now playing in the very small Alamodome where a fly ball is a home run. I didn’t get a chance to touch on this before but the right field fence is only 285 feet down the line. Also the park has a straight right field fence like at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati...
