New York Yankees
Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz were on the bench. Michael Young was at second base. Mike Olt was in right field. Weird lineup, right? Well, it kind of worked. Well played, Ron Washington. Or something like that.
I’d like to say the defensive replacements didn’t hurt us. But … well … Mike Olt dropped a fly ball in the 6th that would have been the final out. And Michael Young couldn’t coordinate with Elvis Andrus on a double play in the 7th. Those were an ugly few innings.
But there were lots of pretty innings too. If you take out that 6th inning, Derek Holland had a great day. He allowed just one base runner in the first five innings — a single to Jayson Nix. His final inning on the mound was his undoing. He lost a 4-0 lead in a hurry. Three singles and a two-run home run. He left the mound with two outs and a runner still at first base (thanks to Olt’s error). He was charged with four earned runs on five hits. Not terrible, but certainly not great either.

Texas Rangers pitcher Ryan Dempster announced earlier that he would miss his next start due to personal reasons. It wasn't known what exactly was the reason for the missed start.
Now we know why.
Dempster will not make the trip with the Rangers to Toronto because he lost his passport. According to the Dallas Morning News, he may have lost it years ago since he hasn't pitched...
One thing that may have gotten lost over the past couple of years of success by the Texas Rangers is perspective.
So much has gone right for Texas since 2010 that it's now easier to find out what's wrong than to focus on what's right.
A lost series in New York is a good example. The Rangers dropped three of four games against the Yankees, who figure to stand between...
Everyone was caught off guard when the Orioles called up Manny Machado. Now the rumors are swirling that the Texas Rangers will call up über prospect Jurickson Profar.

For the second night in a row, Rangers pitchers did their job while the offense floundered. It’s so frustrating to watch this team. I know they’re leading the AL West and have the second best record in the AL. They still look good enough to make October, but if they keep playing like this, they won’t make it through October.
Rangers fans were pretty stoked this afternoon...
David Murphy isn’t a star. The former first-round draft pick — 17th overall by the Red Sox in 2003 — has never been able to establish himself as more than a solid player. Coming into the season, his high-water marks included an .806 OPS and 2 WAR. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t getting better.
Murphy now is having a career year in Texas. Entrenched as an everyday cog in...
IT'S NOT A TUMOR!
With the hot new action flick, "The Expandables 2" set to be released today, the folks over at the MLB Fan Cave decided to audition some of the players who dropped by for the next edition of the movie. The clear winner of this Texas Rangers pitcher Derek Holland:
Craig Gentry turned a spot start into a tiebreaking hit and the Texas Rangers avoided a four-game sweep in a matchup of AL division leaders, rallying past the New York Yankees 10-6 Thursday.
Texas had lost eight straight at Yankee Stadium overall. The hard-hitting Rangers had done little in this series, too, totaling only four runs before the finale.
Gentry started for the first...

During Thursday afternoon's Rangers-Yankees game, Josh Hamilton of the Rangers hit a deep fly ball to left field. Yankees left fielder Andruw Jones, a ten-time Gold Glover in center field for the Braves, settled under the ball, but apparently lost it in the sun. Crippled by the sunlight in his eyes, Jones fell onto his butt while...
The Texas Rangers got solid pitching performances from top to bottom in their minor league system on Friday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action.
We already knew that Derek Holland is pretty good with impressions. We now know that Franklin Morales kind of isn't. They were among a group of MLB players who were featured in a MLB Fan Cave video in which the guys took their turns doing impressions of the cast of The Expendables. No further explanation is needed. Check it out in the video below with big ups to Deadspin for...
Edwin Encarnacion hit his 31st home run, J.A. Happ won his second straight start and the Toronto Blue Jays beat Yu Darvish and the Rangers 3-2 Friday night, handing Texas its fourth loss in five games.
Darvish (12-9) lost for the second time in three starts, allowing three runs and three hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out 10.
For Darvish, it was the seventh time...

NEW YORK -- The Texas Rangers had been humbled in the first three games, the New York Yankees turning the matchup between the American League's top two teams into a Yankee showcase with three straight wins.
