Dempster
Ryan Dempster continues his streak of good outings.  Sure, the game was tight there for awhile, but that wasn’t his fault.  He only allowed two runs on four hits and two walks over six frames.  Oh, and he struck out eight in that time.  Nope, the tight game was not all Dempster’s fault. Adrian Beltre teed off for a three-run home run in the 1st, but that’s all Texas had when Dempster left the mound after six.  But they got three more in the 7th.  Including a Michael Young home run.  He only has six in the whole season and two of them have been in this series.  That is insane. Meanwhile, I’m wondering if Ian Kinsler will ever successfully steal another base.  He has 21 for the season, but only two of those have been since August 1.  He’s been caught stealing three times in that time and he was picked off in ugly fashion the other night.  Ugh. So, back to tonight’s game.  The Rangers are up 6-2 going into the bottom of the 7th. That should have been a nice cushion. Then Alexi Ogando gave

Texas' Young shows signs of improvement

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington has been adamant that he won't be sitting Michael Young in favor of any young players while the veteran tries to find his swing. "Before the season is over, he's going to do something grand," was Washington's line. For Young, though, "grand" means consistency. It's only a week, but the Rangers are starting...

Kinsler's goofs contribute heavily to Rangers' defeat

It was not a good night for Ian Kinsler. The Texas Rangers second baseman made blunders on the basepaths and in the field about five minutes apart Tuesday to turn the game in Kansas City's favor. The Royals erased a two-run deficit and scored six consecutive runs in a 6-3 win over Texas. Kinsler was picked off third base in the top of the third inning with one out and Josh...

Rangers' Beltre starts September with a bang again

There is already a Mr. October. But there might be room for a Mr. September. If there can be such a nickname, Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre is laying claim to it. Beltre had two more extra-base hits, including his 29th home run, in the Rangers' 7-6 win over Kansas City on Wednesday. Over the last two Septembers, Beltre leads the majors in home runs (16), extra-base...

Royals announcers rip Nelson Cruz after he’s hit by pitch: ‘You’re not that good’

Your browser does not support iframes. When Nelson Cruz was hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of the Rangers win over the Royals on Monday, nobody was surprised. Earlier in the game, Cruz hit a towering home run off of Bruce Chen and stood at home plate for a moment to admire it. Opposing pitchers generally dislike being shown up like that, so many thought Kansas City reliever...

Jurickson Profar’s Powerful Debut

After seeing Jurickson Profar play in the South Atlantic League in mid-2011, I returned home and wrote a piece for the now defunct Roto Hardball discussing the teenage phenom as the best shortstop prospect in baseball. In fact, if asked to name the top five prospects I’ve ever scouted in person, Profar would be listed alongside Jason Heyward, Mike Stanton, Bryce Harper and Dylan...

Beltre, Dempster lead Rangers over Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer, Michael Young also went deep and the Texas Rangers held on for a 7-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night. Ryan Dempster (5-1) gave up RBI doubles to Billy Butler in the first inning and Salvador Perez in the sixth, but was otherwise stingy for the AL West-leading Rangers. He only allowed two other hits...

On-leave Rangers announcer to do UNT games

DENTON, Texas (AP) -- A Texas Rangers TV announcer off the air since his rambling comments during a June game will broadcast two college football matchups. The University of North Texas said Wednesday that Dave Barnett will do play-by-play television coverage Saturday against Texas Southern and Nov. 10 vs. South Alabama. Barnett is a 1979 graduate of North Texas, known then as...

Dave Barnett will return to announce a North Texas football game

In great news it appears that Dave Barnett will be returning to the booth in November to announce a North Texas football game. This is fantastic to hear after a scary rambling incident earlier this summer during a Texas Rangers game left many concerned for his career and more importantly his health. Barnett is a Mean Green alum and in the past has called college football...

Joe Nathan- One of the Best

Joe Nathan is one of the best closers in MLB history.  I know, that probably surprises you.  He's converted 90% of save opportunities over his 12 year career, only blowing 32 saves.  His career ERA is 2.85, WHIP is 1.10, and he has 50 W to go along with his 291 SV (currently ranked 25th all-time).  As a typical closer, he strikes out better than a batter per inning (826...

Rangers 5, Royals 4(10)

Ian Kinsler hit a leadoff triple in the 10th inning and scored on Michael Young's single to lift the Texas Rangers over the Kansas City Royals 5-4 on Thursday night. Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre hit back-to-back homers in the fourth to help the AL West leaders overcome a 3-0 deficit. The Rangers (82-55) moved a season-high 27 games above .500 and own the best record in franchise...

Rangers 7, Royals 6

Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer, Michael Young also went deep and the Texas Rangers held on for a 7-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night. Ryan Dempster (5-1) gave up RBI doubles to Billy Butler in the first inning and Salvador Perez in the sixth, but was otherwise stingy for the AL West-leading Rangers. He only allowed two other hits in six innings, striking...

Rangers score early, can’t stop Royals

The Rangers looked incredibly flat tonight.  I kind of expected them to be a little fired up after yesterday’s home run party and late-inning fireworks.  But they were the complete opposite. Elvis Andrus hit a one-out home run in the 1st inning and then Mitch Moreland doubled in a run in the 2nd.  It looked like the team might be off to a good start.  But that was the end of...

Royals nipped by Rangers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer, Michael Young also went deep and the Texas Rangers held on for a 7-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night. Ryan Dempster (5-1) gave up RBI doubles to Billy Butler in the first inning and Salvador Perez in the sixth, but was otherwise stingy for the AL West-leading Rangers. Rangers-Rays Preview

The Texas Rangers are starting to get comfortable atop the AL West. The Tampa Bay Rays are anything but content, but they could change that very soon. While the Rangers attempt to continue building their division lead, the Rays will try to stay close in the AL East race in the opener of this three-game series Friday night in St. Petersburg. Texas (82-55) owns the league's...
