The Texas Rangers have avoided a scheduled arbitration hearing with Nelson Cruz by signing the outfielder to a new two-year, $16 million contract. When the two sides exchanged arbitration figures in January, Cruz asked for $7.5 million while the Rangers offered $5.5 million.
