The Texas Rangers will give 19-year-old infielder Jurickson Profar, considered their top prospect, a chance to prove he belongs on the playoff roster. The club announced after Friday's 5-3 win over the Cleveland Indians that it intended to purchase the contract of Profar from Class AA Frisco. He hit .281 (135-for-480) with 14 home runs, 26 doubles, seven triples, 62 RBI, 76 runs and 16 stolen bases in 126 games with Frisco. He has played shortstop primarily, but he has also worked at second. His 47 extra-base hits are the most by any Class AA infielder, and he has hit .294 (134-for-456) since opening the season 2-for-26. His 50-game on-base streak from April 7-June 2 is the longest by any minor league player in 2012. Profar ranked among Texas League leaders in triples (tied for fourth), total bases (sixth), walks (sixth), runs (seventh), hits (seventh), slugging percentage (10th), doubles (tied for 11th) and RBI (11th).
