Friday night in the Big K was a bit of a snooze.  Except for that three-run blast by Mitch Moreland.  And I missed that part because I was out watering my plants.  You’re welcome, Rangers fans.  One of my twitter friends said she was sending me outside to water the next time the Rangers need a big home run.  I accept. Matt Harrison wasn’t great. He also wasn’t terrible.  He was just good enough to hold the Royals to two runs over 6.2 innings.  His tendency to induce double play balls definitely helped him out there. He only got three strikeouts, but the infield turned two sweet double plays behind him.  Hope he buys them each a drink tonight. The Rangers’ offense is probably a little tired after two slugfests with the Angels. Although they took most of July off, so maybe not.  Everyone except Nelson Cruz and Geovany Soto had a hit, but Soto took a walk, so Cruz is the only one who didn’t reach base.  But that’s OK, Nellie.  You’ll get back at it tomorrow, I’m sure. Mike Olt’s Arrival May End The Michael Young Era

As you’ve undoubtedly heard by now, the Rangers have summoned third base prospect Mike Olt from Double-A, and he’ll be joining the team in Texas in time for tonight’s game against the Angels. With Adrian Beltre manning the hot corner, though, third base is not in his immediate future, and the Rangers certainly aren’t calling Olt up to sit on the bench. Instead, his arrival...

Josh Hamilton’s problem reportedly is chewing tobacco

Josh Hamilton struggled at the plate for over two months, and both he and Rangers manager Ron Washington said there were some problems going on unrelated to injury. Hamilton left the problems a mystery, but said he was being disobedient to God and that the media would find out about it at the right time. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports says he knows what the problem has been for Hamilton...

Report: Josh Hamilton’s personal issue stems from struggling to quit chewing tobacco

Last weekend Josh Hamilton was in a 1-for-14 slump. Hamilton attempted to explain the slump by revealing that he was dealing with some personal issues and that he’s been “disobedient to God.” Of course, those remarks added even more fuel to the fire of his woes at the plate and people began to wonder just what was going on with Hamilton. After Thursday’s game he declined...

Josh Hamilton remains as cryptic as ever about his mysterious off-the-field issue

Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton had people scratching their heads after his somewhat bizarre ramblings to reporters about what he perceived as the causes behind his falling headway into a slump. Wezen-Ball: Ventura v. Ryan: An Anniversary Look Back by Larry Granillo

Today marks the 19th anniversary of one of the most memorable on-field fights in recent baseball history. On August 4, 1993, 46-year-old strikeout king Nolan Ryan hit 26-year-old Robin Ventura in the arm with an inside fastball. Ventura stepped away from the plate for a moment, seemingly on his way to first base, before throwing his bat down and charging the mound. He then...

Matt Harrison gave the beleaguered Texas pitching staff a strong start, Mitch Moreland hit a three-run homer and the Rangers defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 on Friday night.
