The Texas Rangers are facing quite the pitching pickle this weekend when they play at San Francisco, in a park where they have never won a game. Though the club has looked at other options, Scott Feldman is expected to make his scheduled start Saturday against the Giants. Feldman hasn't made it through five innings in any of his five starts this season. Before Wednesday's 2-0 loss at Oakland, the Rangers allowed him to go ahead and do his normal between-starts bullpen session, an indication that he would still pitch Saturday. "We haven't said he isn't going to pitch," manager Ron Washington said. Another concern arose Tuesday when Derek Holland, in the wake of start that saw a precipitous drop in velocity, acknowledged he is still battling a stomach virus that has been an issue for two weeks. Holland said he has lost 15 pounds while dealing with the issue. Holland pitched 5 1/3 innings Tuesday before being removed. On Wednesday, he went through his ...

Holland optimistic he'll make next start Sunday

Texas Rangers starter Derek Holland went through his normal workout routine Wednesday, saying he expects to make his next turn in the rotation Sunday at San Francisco despite being slowed by a puzzling stomach virus. Holland has lost about 15 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks since coming down with the bug, which caused him to fatigue during the Rangers' 6-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics...

Washington jokes about spanking Holland

Just call it tough love. Derek Holland, who takes the mound for the Rangers tonight against the Oakland Athletics, can expect that from his manager if he can't get over his last rough start, a 21-8 loss to Seattle last Wednesday. "I believe Derek is going to bounce back. He has to bounce back," Rangers manager Ron Washington told MLB.com "If he goes out there...

Rangers put Holland on disabled list

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Texas Rangers have lost a second member of their Opening Day rotation due to injury as left-hander Derek Holland has been put on the disabled list with left shoulder fatigue. The club has purchased the contract of right-hander Tanner Scheppers from Round Rock. To clear room on the 40-man roster, the club designated John Gaub for assignment. Right-hander Alexi...

Texas in pitching scramble with Holland injury

OAKLAND, Calif. The Texas Rangers have lost a second member of their Opening Day rotation due to injury as left-hander Derek Holland has been put on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder fatigue. The club has purchased the contract of right-hander Tanner Scheppers from Round Rock. To clear room on the 40-man roster, the club designated John Gaub for assignment. The Holland...

Ailing Holland still strong enough to beat A's

After his starting pitcher saw a precipitous drop in velocity Tuesday, Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington was asked if Derek Holland were healthy. "Depends on what you mean by healthy," Washington said. Turns out, Holland isn't healthy, but then, again, he isn't hurt. After a 6-3 win over Oakland in which Holland saw his fastball velocity drop from nearly...

MRI shows no shoulder damage for Rangers' Holland

An MRI on the left shoulder of Texas Rangers starting pitcher Derek Holland showed no structural damage, the team said Friday. Team officials said they believe Holland's lack of shoulder strength is related to a stomach virus that ailed him last month, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Holland, who has lost 15 pounds, has been told by Dr. Keith Meister not to throw for...

Rangers place Derek Holland on DL

The Texas Rangers have placed left-hander Derek Holland on the 15-day disabled list because of a fatigued left shoulder. Holland (5-4) has been dealing with a stomach virus that has caused him to lose 10-15 pounds over the past couple of weeks. The move was made before the series finale Thursday in Oakland. It is retroactive to Wednesday, a day after Holland pitched 5 1-3 innings...

Feldman's rotation spot in jeopardy after another poor start

It's barely been two weeks since Neftali Feliz went on the disabled list with a sprained elbow ligament, and already the Texas Rangers are facing another pitching crisis. Scott Feldman lasted only 1 2/3 innings in a 12-1 loss to Oakland on Monday. Feldman allowed eight innings in the second, the most runs the A's have scored in an inning this year. This has not been an...

Holland, Rangers get back in the win column

People often say the key to a good relationship is not going to bed mad.  Well, I went to bed mad last night after that horrible game.  The Rangers and I were not on good terms.  Still in love, but just not very happy together. Tonight, we made up, and I’ll go to bed hoping for some sweet dreams. Derek Holland fared much better this time than his last start.  He made it 5.1...

Rangers’ Rotation Thins Out With Holland Injury

It’s been a rough few weeks for the Rangers. They got thumped by both the Mariners (21-8) and Athletics (12-1) within the last week and are just 21-22 since an eight-game winning streak in the middle of April. Texas has already lost Neftali Feliz for an extended period of time due to an elbow sprain and today they lost another young hurler, southpaw Derek Holland with left shoulder...

Game Picks - Tuesday: June 5, 2012

Well, Scott Feldman, that did not go very well. Feldman has long been a favorite here thanks in part to buddy, Josh Borenstein. But it looks like that relationship is over. Feldman has had his shot as a starter after lost years following his 17-win season. His shot should be over because he has been terrible. As good as the Rangers are, they can't survive when they are looking...

Rangers lose game, series and Holland

What a terrible game. And series. And road trip. I had high hopes with Yu Darvish taking the mound today.  I hoped he could do as well as Colby Lewis, if not better.  Unfortunately, that was not the case.  Six runs, six hits, six walks.  Yep, that’s 666, which is never a good sign.  The worst inning was the 4th, in which the Athletics scored four runs on just one hit.  Darvish...

Rangers rebound from rout to beat A's

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Ian Kinsler hit a two-run double and Josh Hamilton also doubled in a run to back Derek Holland, and the Texas Rangers rebounded from an embarrassing rout a night earlier to beat the Oakland Athletics 6-3 on Tuesday. Yorvit Torrealba hit a sacrifice fly, Adrian Beltre singled twice and Holland (5-4) pitched 5 1-3 innings -- looking far stronger than in his...

What You Need to Know: Tuesday, June 5 by Daniel Rathman

The Monday Takeaway R.J. Anderson wrote last week in his analysis of Roy Oswalt’s deal with Texas that “Jon Daniels knew the Rangers needed another starter with Neftali Feliz experiencing elbow inflammation and Scott Feldman inflating the run-scoring environment.” If the past week is any indication, the general manager’s foresight may prove critical to the team's hopes...
