HOUSTON Julio Borbon still has a fan in the Texas Rangers organization in general manager Jon Daniels.
That doesn't mean that Borbon will still be with the club April 9 when they have to make a roster move for fifth starter Nick Tepesch.
Borbon is out of options and the club would have to expose him to waivers if they try to send him to the minors to clear room for Tepesch. The club was unable to trade Borbon before the season started and is now carrying him as the fifth outfielder.
"Had there been something we felt good about for Julio out there we might have done that," Daniels said. "Since we didn't we didn't see any reason to rush it. We will have a call to make when we bring Tepesch up."
Even though Borbon might not receive much playing time with the Rangers, that doesn't mean Daniels thinks any less of Borbon, who was the Opening Day centerfielder in 2010 and 2011.
