Lance Berkman and the Texas Rangers have talked with each other about next season reports Ken Rosenthal. Berkman missed much of last season and had been leaning towards retirement.
A deal with a contender, in his home state, may be enough to sway Berkman’s decision.
Last season Berkman appeared in 32 games for the St. Louis Cardinals before suffering a knee injury.
The Houston Astros are one team who expressed interest in Berkman earlier this off season. However, the Astros are not expected to compete and have filled up their depth chart at first base and designated hitter. With the Astros seemingly out of the equation the Rangers are clearly the best option for Berkman.
Berkman’s last full season came in 2011 when he hit 31 home runs with a .301/.412/.547 line.
