After a grinding stretch when the Texas Rangers lost nine of their last 13 games, and the AL West crown in the process, manager Ron Washington gave his players the day off Thursday. They get a chance to start fresh Friday. One chance - or the season will be over for the two-time defending American League champions long before another World Series. The Rangers are home Friday night against Baltimore and former manager Buck Showalter in the winner-take-all AL wild card game. Right-hander Yu Darvish makes his major league postseason debut for Texas against the only AL team he didn't face his rookie season. Lefty Joe Saunders, a late-season acquisition by Baltimore, has lost all six of his previous starts at Rangers Ballpark with a 9.38 ERA.

Ex-Rangers facing Texas as member of O's

ARLINGTON-- Baltimore manager Buck Showalter has clearly found a formula that worked for the Orioles as the former Rangers skipper has the Birds in the playoffs for the first time since 1997. And as every Ranger fan knows, the veteran manager has built a roster filled with, well seven of them to be exact, of former Rangers. This is a diverse group, one including speedy outfielder...

Orioles Magic 2012 – Baltimore’s playoff theme song

The Oakland A’s recently debuted their 2012 playoffs theme song with a 70′s sounding ditty.  Now it’s the Orioles’ turn.  They went with a Mr. Belvedere-ish, Abba-sounding jam.  It actually sounds more suited for their days with Brooks and Frank Robinson. But hey, who can argue with the title – Orioles Magic?  They certainly used some magic to maintain their standing...

Rangers' collapse started before wild card loss

Silent bats force O’s on the road for wild card play-in game

After finally breaking out offensively last weekend against the Boston Red Sox, the O’s bats looked to be riding a wave of momentum into the season’s final series in Tampa Bay. Unfortunately, as the old adage goes, “good pitching beats good hitting.” The Rays, possessors of baseball’s best pitching staff, were in no mood to do anything to disprove that saying. Tampa starters...
