Fox Sports Southwest:
ARLINGTON, Texas The Texas Rangers have made a switch in their pitching rotation and will go with rookie left-hander Martin Perez Friday in Seattle.
Perez will take the rotation spot of Scott Feldman (6-11). Feldman allowed six runs in 2 22 innings Saturday and was replaced by Perez, who pitched 4 13 scoreless innings.
"He's been very aggressive," Texas manager Ron Washington said of Perez. "He's been keeping the ball down and he's been showing tremendous improvement. He's a very good competitor. We're going to give him an opportunity to take a few starts the rest of the way."
Feldman, who has been in and out of the rotation all season, started the season 0-6 but then won six-consecutive decisions. He's lost his last five though and his ERA is now 5.32.
Perez, who made three starts for the Rangers earlier this year, is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in nine appearances. He's excited about the opportunity to start for the Rangers down the stretch. In three relief outings since being called up in September, he has a 1.93 ERA in 9 13 innings.
His 4 13 hitless Saturday made him the first Texas reliever to have an outing of at least 4 13 hitless and scoreless innings since Mark Brandenburg in 1996.
He will approach his start with confidence gained from his recent pitching.
"I've been feeling good," he said. "There is a change between starting and being in the bullpen in the preparing. That's now what I've got to do to get ready."

ARLINGTON, Texas Texas right-hander Colby Lewis, who is out for the season after tearing his right flexor tendon, has been signed for the 2013 season.
Lewis, who would have been a free agent after the season, will make 2 million and could make up to 6 million if he reaches all of the incentives in his contract.
Lewis had surgery to repair the flexor tendon July 27 and isn'...
I am generally a fan of roller coasters. Except when they happen in the form of a Rangers game.
Scott Feldman continued his streak of terrible starts, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks in just 2.2 innings. And he threw 71 pitches in that time. Horrendous. I’m not about to boo Feldman (like many in RBIA did), but it’s getting REALLY hard to root for him. ...
Offering a contract extension to an injured player is a risky proposition. It gets more risky when we're talking about baseball contracts. In football, a team can essentially tear up a contract, void it, and start over if they don't like what they see from someone or if that player can't perform. However, contracts in baseball are guaranteed. Aside from incentive...
The Texas Rangers agreed to extend the contract of right-handed pitcher Colby Lewis through the 2013 season, ESPN Dallas reported Monday. Lewis will make a base salary of $2 million but could earn up to $4 million through incentives. Lewis is out for the rest of the season with a torn flexor tendon in his pitching elbow. He said Saturday that he expects to start rebuilding arm...
Anyone who thinks Matt Harrison is the #3 guy in the playoff rotation probably needs to look again. How is he NOT #2? Only Yu Darvish looks sharper right now. Those two are the guys I want out there the most if the Rangers make the post-season for the third time. But enough about the post-season. There’s still some work to do.
Harrison did his part today. And so did...
(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By STEPHEN HAWKINS AP Sports Writer Another division title is within reach for the two-time defending American League champion Texas Rangers.
The Rangers (87-59) have the AL's best record. But they are still in a tight division race, with the A's the closest chaser instead of the expected Los Angeles Angels.
Texas had its last regular season...
