The Texas Rangers are preparing for life without Neftali Feliz.

Two days after he complained of soreness in his right elbow, Feliz was placed on the 15-day disabled list with what was described as a sprained ulnar collateral ligament.

He will be prohibited from doing any throwing for at least four weeks before being re-evaluated by team physician Dr. Keith Meister. It's unlikely he would return before July.

Now the Rangers must replace him. General manger Jon Daniels said "all options" are on the table and that includes possibly pursuing free agent RHP Roy Oswalt. In the short-term, at least, the Rangers will give RHP Scott Feldman a chance to claim a spot in the rotation. Feldman has started twice as a spot starter. He will pitch Wednesday against Seattle. The Rangers have an off day on Thursday and could juggle the rotation after that if they see fit.

The other internal option is RHP Alexi Ogando, who was an All-Star as a starter last year. Ogando moved back to the bullpen this season to be a versatile weapon who could pitch anywhere from the sixth to the eighth innings. If he moved back in to the rotation, it would take a couple of starts to stretch him out. It could also create a hole in the bullpen.

It's unclear what this will mean long-term for Feliz. He lasted only seven starts after moving from the bullpen before suffering the injury. The Rangers aren't going to make plans for whether he'll remain in the rotation or return to the bullpen anytime soon.

"It's something we've got to think about," Daniels said. "He was as strong and well-conditioned as he's ever been. But as I said about options -- we'll consider them all - that goes for (Feliz's) future, too. Everything is on the table. We've got to consider what is best for Neftal."
