ARLINGTON, Texas - The Texas Rangers added some pitching depth Saturday by acquiring right-hander Hector Noesi from Seattle. Noesi, who was picked up for cash considerations or a player to be named later, is expected to fly to Texas Sunday and figures to serve as a long reliever. "He'll give us some length in the pen," general manager Jon Daniels said. "He's started and pitched in the bullpen in the big leagues. He hasn't really had the success yet that I think people thought he would coming out of the minor leagues but he's 27 years old, durable, good arm, plus stuff. The raw ingredients are there." Noesi was designated for assignment by the Mariners after pitching in two games this season. He allowed three runs in an inning of work before he was let go. He came to Seattle from the New York Yankees as part of the Michael Pineda for Jesus Montero trade. He's pitched in 64 games in the majors, going 4-16 with a 5.64 ERA. The Rangers cleared a s...

Lewis is scheduled to start Monday's series opener against Seattle. It will be his first major league game since July 18, 2012. Since then he's had surgery to repair a torn right flexor tendon and undergone right hip resurfacing surgery. Lewis...

Rangers leaning towards DL for Beltre

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre did some work on the field Saturday and also took batting practice. That might not be enough to keep him from going on the disabled list with a strained left quadriceps though. The Rangers plan to wait through the weekend to see how Beltre feels but a DL move seems likely. "The last thing we want is for it to grab on him again then...

The team announced today that Beltre has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. D-backs sign veteran pitcher Wolf to minor league deal

The Diamondbacks added a potential rotation option Friday when they signed veteran left-hander Randy Wolf to a minor league contract. The 37-year-old Wolf had won a starting spot in spring training with the Mariners, but when the team tried to renegotiate the terms of his contract, he requested and was granted his release. Wolf, who is 132-117 with a 4.20 ERA in his 14-year career...

Mariners 6, A’s 4 — Felix Hernandez improves to 3-0 on the season

Felix Hernandez continues to pitch well against the A’s and add his name to the record book. On a chilly Friday night in front of a packed Safeco Field – most of them holding up “K” placards and wearing free bright gold t-shirts bearing his name for the Supreme Court – the Mariners’ ace added to another accomplishment into his growing chapter of the organization’s...

Rangers win second 1-0 game of series against Astros

A 1-0 game isn’t too common in baseball and hasn’t been over the years for the Texas Rangers, a franchise long known for its power hitters and home-park jet stream. That perception is beginning to change. Look no further than this past weekend series against the Houston Astros. The Rangers won a pair of 1-0 games in the series, the first time that has happened in franchise...

On J.P. Arencibia

While considering J.P. Arencibia for my Hacking Mass team on Baseball Prospectus, I wondered how he managed to get 497 plate appearances with a .227 on-base percentage. After a quick spin of the Baseball-Reference Play Index, we find that only one person in baseball history had a season with more plate appearances and a lower on-base percentage than J.P. Arencibia in 2013.That was...

Rangers finally muster clutch hit to beat Astros

It’s clear by now: When Yu Darvish starts, everybody gets extra anxious. Especially the Rangers offense. Darvish again flirted with a no-hitter against Houston. He again held an opponent scoreless and hitless with runners in scoring position. And for the second time this season in as many starts, he walked off the mound without a drop of offense from his team. It wasn’t until...

Yoenis Céspedes makes up for error in 3-0 A's win

Yoenis Céspedes made an error on a knuckling liner in the seventh inning Sunday, the drive to left-center by the Mariners' Corey Hart banging off the top of his glove. The mistake didn't translate into a run, and the game remained scoreless - until Céspedes stepped to the plate the next inning and clobbered a two-run homer to left. The A's would pick up a 3-0 win over...
