Rangers ship Teagarden to Baltimore

The Texas Rangers have traded backup catcher Taylor Teagarden to the Baltimore Orioles for a minor-league pitcher and a player to be named later. Teagarden, who was out of options with the Rangers, was with the Rangers on four different occasions in 2011 but was used sparingly. He hit .235 in just 34 at=bats with Texas and played in 42 games with Round Rock. Teagarden, who played high school ball at Carrollton Creekview and college ball at Texas, made his debut with the Rangers in 2008. He spent the entire 2009 season with the Rangers, hitting .217 in a career high 60 games. He should be comfortable in Baltimore, which is managed by former Rangers skipper Buck Showalter. The Orioles already have former Texas players Tommy Hunter, Willie Eyre, Zach Phillips, Clay Rapada, Darren ODay, Chris Davis and Pedro Strop on their 40-man roster. The Rangers got right-hander Randy Henry in the deal. Henry, 21, was 4-3 with two saves and a 2.22 ERA for two Class A teams in 2011. He was a fourth-round pick in the 2009 draft. The Rangers arent putting him on the 40-man roster and have assigned him to Class A Myrtle Beach.
