Roy Oswalt - Philadelphia - 2010 Road Batting Practice (Photo credit: BaseballBacks) Rangers Sign Roy Oswalt, Will He Help? Yesterday Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reported that the Rangers had signed starting pitcher Roy Oswalt for about $4.25MM for the rest of the season. It had been reported for months that Oswalt really wanted to play for Texas, as he wanted to stay close to home but also play for a contender, which is undoubtedly why he preferred the Rangers to the Astros. Oswalt reportedly has told the Rangers he’ll be ready to go in a month, which means the Rangers should get anywhere from 10-15 starts from him if he can remain healthy and effective. Adding a quality pitcher mid-season is almost never a bad idea, and when it involves giving up nothing, as it does in this case, it’s never a bad idea. More importantly, though, can Oswalt still provide value as a starting pitcher? Let’s ...

Oswalt tosses 2 scoreless in minor start

ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) -- Roy Oswalt threw two scoreless innings in his first minor league start for the Texas Rangers. Oswalt gave up three hits and a walk while pitching for Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday night against Albuquerque, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 34-year-old Oswalt, who pitched 11 major league seasons with Houston and Philadelphia, agreed to a minor...

Roy Oswalt Could Make Rangers Better, But He Doesn't Make Texas a Lock for World Series

The Texas Rangers signed Roy Oswalt on Tuesday, and once he passes his physical, everything will become official. He'll get some minor league rehab work in, and he'll eventually join the Rangers, with both sides hoping the veteran right-hander can bolster the Texas pitching staff. He'll almost certainly do that, but it may be a little much to think that Oswalt will put...

Rangers' Oswalt expects to be ready in four starts

Roy Oswalt officially joined the Rangers with a one-year contract. He expects to join the big league rotation after about four starts. Oswalt told reporters that thrown bullpen sessions every other day for the past six weeks. His first start is excepted to come at Triple-A Round Rock, on Saturday. "My arm feels great, my body feels great," Oswalt said during a conference...

Rangers sign Roy Oswalt, will he help?

Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reported that the Rangers had signed starting pitcher Roy Oswalt for an estimated $4.25MM for the rest of the season. It had been reported for months that Oswalt really wanted to play for Texas, as he wanted to stay close to home but also play for a contender, which [...]

It's no surprise the Rangers landed Oswalt

ARLINGTON, Texas On second thought, maybe Roy Oswalt should bypass Round Rock and head straight for North Texas. The elation over signing the former Houston Astros All-Star pitcher was tempered Wednesday with the Rangers' second consecutive miserable performance against the Seattle Mariners. This is apparently the only pitching staff in baseball that can jump-start the Mariners...

Ryan, Maddux helped lure Oswalt to Rangers

The Texas Rangers banked on relationships being their No. 1 drawing point to lure free agent right-hander Roy Oswalt. Based on Oswalt's first comments Wednesday after signing a minor league deal with the club, it certainly appears the relationships paid off. Among those ties: Club president Nolan Ryan worked with Oswalt in 2000 when Oswalt was playing for Class AA Round Rock...

Rangers sign Roy Oswalt

Recently departed Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt is no longer on the market, as he signed with the Rangers on Tuesday. The Rangers deemed his help necessary with the injury to starting pitcher Neftali Feliz. The deal is pending a physical, which is to be taken on Thursday, and will join Triple A Round Rock for a few starts before he makes his way to the majors. Sources say that the...

Transaction Analysis: Roy Oswalt Finds His Contender by R.J. Anderson

Signed RHP Roy Oswalt to a one-year deal worth $5 million guaranteed. [5/29] Jon Daniels knew the Rangers needed another starter with Neftali Feliz experiencing elbow inflammation and Scott Feldman inflating the run-scoring environment. The choice between pursuing Oswalt and spending money or trolling the trade market had to be an easy one. Daniels isn’t the only sensible actor...

Yesterday, upon hearing the news, I screamed out the words that were so pressurized inside me...

They just Ridley Scotted from my belly, gushed out after I heard the news:  Texas signed Roy Oswalt. "OF COURSE THE F====G RANGERS SIGNED HIM. THEY GET F====G EVERYBODY.” Yes, people…  the Rangers are the Yankees. Unable to dominate the NFL, the malevolent, George Bushian state of Texas has chosen to exert its oily blood money in baseball. And we, the Eastern dandy...

Dodgers Minor League Report - 6/02/12

The DSL Dodgers debut, the Topes face Roy Oswalt and all of the affiliates lose.

No need to rush for Oswalt

Note: All stats are prior to games on Thursday. Let's cool the jets on the Roy Oswalt acquisitions, everybody. Yes, reaching a deal with the best team in baseball makes the three-time All-Star appealing, especially with the patronage of the potent Rangers lineup. However, three quick tangents to bear in mind: - Oswalt was 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 139 innings last...

Angels, Red Sox Deal With Injuries, Inconsistency in Parallel Seasons

Just as the division rival Texas Rangers were adding a high-profile pitcher with a history of back problems in Roy Oswalt, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim were putting their ace Jered Weaver on the disabled list with lower back spasms. For the Angels, their eventual 9-8 walkoff victory over the Yankees on May 28 could have been a turning point in the 2012 season, finally reaching...

Rangers Sign Roy Oswalt

(Photo Credit: Scott Cunningham/Getty Images) The Texas Rangers just got even better. After signing Roy Oswalt to a minor league contract on Tuesday, the Rangers have successfully shored up the back-end of their rotation. With Neftali Feliz out at least two months with a sprained right elbow, and Scott Feldman showing that he just doesn’t [...]

2012 Waiver Wire – Week 9

The big budget buster in free agency this week is going to be Roy Oswalt who signed with the Texas Rangers and should be listed as a possible pickup in AL-only formats this week. He is expected to make four minor league starts before he is ready to face major league hitters which would give him anywhere from 15 – 17 starts for the season in Texas. If you are in need of pitching...

On Doc, Oswalt, Howard, Injuries, and the Phillies

Are you honestly shocked? Let me preface all of this: Howard and Utley haven't played an inning, Worley, Lee, and Halladay have done DL stints, Thome and Nix are watching baseball and not playing it, Rollins and Qualls have stunk, Victorino and Pence have had their negatives, Joe Blanton is slumping, and they've used about 15 relievers (figuratively, I think...
