Some readers may think that the title of this post is a sarcastic jab at the fact that Carlos Marmol blew yet another save, but it’s not! It’s actually aimed at that the fact he had an attempt to save the game at all. Well, he took to the mound with one out, a one-run lead, and Shin-Soo Choo on second. He promptly gave up the game-tying single and loaded the bases before getting out of the inning. So what does this mean for the Cubs closer situation if Dale Sveum is willing to go back to Marmol? At this point it seems like Sveum is going with matchups although I believe James Russell is the guy you want to own for the time being. Marmol had a great track record against Joey Votto (1-for-14 with 9 K), but that doesn’t explain why he was allowed to pitch after Votto’s single. The Cubs’ bullpen is a mess at this point and we can only hope that Kyuji Fujikawa comes back soon.4/22 RecapAdam Wainwright continued his amazing start to the season (8.1 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 9 K/1 BB) against a very good Nationals’ lineup. He did walk his first batter of the season (37 K/1 BB), but I guess we’ll let that slide this once.Yesterday, I talked about Wade Miley and today we can talk about his teammate Patrick Corbin. He hasn’t allowed more than 2 ER in any of his four starts this year and is currently sitting with a cool 1.71 ERA and 0.99 WHIP.Bartolo Colon dominated the Red Sox in his “complete game shutout” by pitching seven innings of three-hit ball with 7 K and 1 BB. The weather was horrible — hence the seven inning complete game — so I wouldn’t read too much into this start.Looking AheadThe Padres have decided to move Andrew Cashner to the rotation. That noise you just heard? That was every fantasy owner collectively yelling, “Finally!” Any high-upside pitching prospect who calls Petco Park his home is worth owning.Wednesday’s Probable StartersMy suggestions on who you should start in 10-12 team leagues. Bold = Start.Brett Anderson (OAK) @ Jon Lester (BOS) — The weather is going to be much better today and while Anderson is coming off a horrible start, I’m willing to start him along with Lester.Brandon Morrow (TOR) @ Josh Stinson (BAL) — To say that Morrow has struggled would be an understatement. I’m willing to bench him until he turns it around.Zach McAllister (CLE) @ Jose Quintana (CLE) — From yesterday: Quintana has been great (13.2 IP, 8 baserunners, 14 K) and has already dominated the Indians once this year. I’m also taking the chance on McAllister today as the White Sox offense is really struggling.Joe Saunders (SEA) @ Lucas Harrell (HOU) — Saunders hasn’t been good on the road this year so I’m sitting him even though he’s pitching against the Astros. Harrell is a risky play despite the good matchup.Wade Davis (KC) @ Max Scherzer (DET) — From yesterday: Davis shut down the hot Braves last week, but the Tigers are a more polished offense. Scherzer is coming off one of his best starts ever.Andy Pettitte (NYY) @ Alex Cobb (TB) — I think Pettitte is a solid bet for not only a win, but a quality start. He has been very solid in his return.Yu Darvish (TEX) @ Jerome Williams (LAA) — Darvish has struck out at least six batters in each of his four starts and 10+ twice. Whoever is pitching for the Angels isn’t capable of that, especially against a top-tier offense.Jeff Samardzija (CHC) @ Mat Latos (CIN) — Despite the tough matchup, Samardzija’s strikeout potential is too good to pass up.Jaime Garcia (STL) @ Stephen Strasburg (WAS) — Set and forget.Tim Hudson (ATL) @ Tyler Chatwood (COL) — Hudson’s ground ball tendencies should help him pitch well enough to win in Colorado.Ian Kennedy (ARI) @ Madison Bumgarner (SF) — Bumgarner has been the ace of the staff and Kennedy gets the benefit of pitching at AT&T Park.Ted Lilly (LAD) @ Mat Harvey (NYM) — I don’t like to pitch starters in their first outings after injury, but you should stash Lilly. Harvey is a must-start option.Wandy Rodriguez (PIT) @ Roy Halladay (PHI) — Halladay is now on a two-start streak where he has pitched well. The Pirates offense doesn’t scare me either. Rodriguez should also be a safe bet for a quality start.Marco Estrada (MIL) @ Edinson Volquez (SD) — I love Estrada’s strikeout potential and control. Don’t bail on him yet, especially in San Diego.#ProfStatsNote: We are going to start a new trend (literally) where we post fun and interesting stats we find around the baseball twittersphere with the hashtag #ProfStats.
