This just in: Bryce Harper is pretty damn good. For those that didn’t believe his last season was for real he didn’t waste any time trying to persuade you to his side with his 2 HR performance yesterday. He will still be prone to his slumps given that he is still only 20 years old (it’s easy to forget), but he already has 30/20 potential and is a top-3 player in keeper leagues along with Mike Trout and Ryan Braun.4/1 RecapSpeaking of Harper, despite giving up the two solo shots, Ricky Nolasco was fairly impressive with a line of 6 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 5 K/2 BB. He seems to be one of those pitchers who always tantalized with his peripheral numbers, but his career ERA is 4.49 over six seasons. I’m not falling for it anymore.I’m not worried about CC Sabathia‘s performance against the Red Sox (5 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 5 K/4 BB) because he’s one of those pitchers that takes a while to get going. For his career, he has a 4.15 ERA in April which is is worst month. He’s kind of like a U-Haul truck filled with cargo that is trying to accelerate, just try to be patient. I swear that wasn’t a fat joke.It was exciting to see the Mets with 13 hits and 11 runs yesterday, but then I saw that Ike Davis went 0-for-5 with 4 K. Ouch. Not the best start for one of my favorite sleepers of 2013, but I still think he’s a dark horse for 40 homers this year. Let’s not forget that he hit 27 homers in just four months (413 PA).Some quick closer news: Carlos Marmol fell flat on his face and Kyuji Fujikawa had to step in for the save. Dale Sveum still claims that Marmol is the guy, but how long can that really last for? … Phil Coke converted the first save chance for the Tigers, but this is truly a closer by committee and I wouldn’t rush to the waiver wires to pick him up.Another sleeper of mine, Dexter Fowler, hit a home run while going 3-for-5 last night and could be in play for 15-20 homers with a very good OBP.Looking AheadI think Jason Hammel picks up right where he left off last year against the Rays today for a nice spot start. Also, one of my favorite underrated pitchers, Hisashi Iwakuma, gets his first start of the season. I love his 7.39 K/9 and 2.65 BB/9 from last year and he induces plenty of ground balls (50.9%).I have my eye on Hyun-Jin Ryu today in his MLB debut as his whacky delivery could prove to be troublesome for major league hitters out the gate. He’s definitely worth taking a flier on in any league.
