Raul Ibanez hit 2 home runs last night and drove in 6 RBI as the Seattle Mariners beat up Phil Hughes and the New York Yankees.  Ibanez hit his 18th and 19th home run at the New Yankee Stadium and has done so in just 219 ABs, or once every 11 at bats.  He is a career .283 hitter in the new Bronx.  His 1st inning grand slam paced the Mariners to a 12-2 victory.  Hughes failed to get out of the first inning giving up 6 hits and 7 earned runs.  Kyle Seager added his 5th homer in the 6th inning, and drove in 3 runs.  Hisashi Iwakuma improvd to 5-1 with an ERA of 1.84.  Vernon Wells hit his 10th home run, another solo shot.  He has just 23 RBI to show for his 10 dingers.Zack Greinke only lasted 83 pitches but it was enough to go 5.1 innings and pick up a W.  It was his first start since the Carlos Quientin incident.  Greinke helped himself out with the game winning RBI single in the 2nd inning.  He did allow a home run to Adam LaRoche, but it was just a solo shot.  Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier combined to go 4 of 5 with all 3 runs scored.  Ethier also walked twice reaching base in all 4 ABs.  Brandon League picked up his 9th save and actually lowered his ERA to 5.87.The Royals moved to 3 games over .500 with a 9-5 victory over the Angels.  Lorenzo Cain hit his 7th and 8th double of the season, driving in his 20th, 21st and 22nd RBI.  He also scored twice.  Salvador Perez picked up two hits and 2 RBI and is now hitting .303 on the year, .370 in the month of May!  Alex Gordon added 3 hits of his own and raised his average to .331 and is hitting .357 in May.The Toronto Blue Jays beat the San Francisco Giants 11-3 and got help from a couple of bad defensive plays from SF.  Marco Scutaro and Angel Pagan errors in the 1st inning led to 5 Blue Jays runs.  Pagan did his best to make up for it with 3 hits, 2 doubles, but it wasn't enough.  Jose Bautista, J.P. Arencibia and Adam Lind each had two hits and 2 RBI.  Lind hit his 3rd homer while Arencibia hit his 10th. Arencibia has jsut 20 RBI.  Ryan Vogelsong fell to 1-4 and his ERA sits at 8.06.Shelby Miller pitched into the 6th inning against the Mets and was in line for his 6th win before Seth Maness gave up a two run bomb to Rick Ankiel, his first as a Met.  Ankiel was the only player in the game to have 2 hits.  Miller pitched 5.2 shutout innings with 6 Ks, lowering his ERA to 1.40.  Daniel Murphy and Ruben Tejada combined to see 13 pitches in 7 ABs.  Edward Mujica earned his 11th save.Jason Marquis has been unbelievable this year, improving to 5-2 with a 3.49 ERA.  The Padres beat the Orioles 8-4, backed by the bottom of the order which drove in 5 RBI with home runs from Kyle Blanks and Alexei Amarista.  Everth Cabrera picked up 4 hits and stole his 12th base.  Manny Machado continues to be a star, with 4 hits, and 3 doubles, giving him 17 on the year.  He is now batting .343.  J.J. Hardy and Matt Wieters homered for the Birds. So what is Eric Chavez deal anyway?  He is 35 years old and signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks, a National League team, which is forcing him to play the field.  He is hitting .433 in May in over 30 ABs.  he picked up 3 RBI yesterday helping Ian Kennedy beat the Atlanta Braves.  Paul Goldschmidt and his 3 doubles also helped.  Heath Bell picked up save #6.  Freddie Freeman picked up 3 hits, 2 doubles and 3 RBI in a losing effort. The Houston Astros won just their 11th game, beating Max Scherzer and the Detroit Tigers.  Scherzer lasted 7 innings but gave up 5 earned.  He got a ND.  Jose Veras saved his 5th game.  Astros catcher Carlos Corporan hit his 2nd double and 3rd home run driving in 2 runs.  He is hitting .313 on the season.  J.D. Martinez also homered driving in 3 runs.  Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and Victor Martinez went 1 for 13 with a strike out each.  Avisail Garcia hit his first major league home run.Wandy Rodriguez earned his 4th victory as the Pirates improved to 23-17 in a 3-1 victory over the Brewers.  Norichika Aoki was the only player to pick up more than just one hit.  Jean Segura and Starling Marte each struck out 3 times.  Rickie Weeks did hit a solo shot.Dylan Axelrod finally won a game, thanks to Adam Dunn's 2 home runs and 5 RBI.  Dunn also added a double.  Dayan Viciedo and Jeff Keppinger each had 2 RBI for the White Sox and Josh Willingham had 2 for the Twins.  Alex Rios, Joe Mauer and Jamey Carroll each had 3 hits.Mike Leake shut out the Miami Marlins as the Red won 4-0.  The first 5 Reds had all of the hits for Cincinnati as Shin-Soo Choo picked up 4 hits and hit 2 home runs.  Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto and Jay Bruce each had 2 hits.  It seems Dan Straily's first start this season was not the guy he really is.  After striking out 11 Astros on April 5th, Straily has just 16 Ks over 4 starts, lost his last 2 starts and his ERA is over 7.  No more streaming of this guy!  Lance Berkman, Adrian Beltre and Nelson Cruz drove in all 6 of the Rangers runs.  Cruz hit his 10th home run and drove in 3.  Alexei Ogando improved to 4-2 with a nice 3.08 ERA.As expected, Dexter Fowler has returned to planet earth and is hitting just .128 in the month of May.  The Rockies lost to Jeff Samardjiza and the Cubs.  It was Jeff's first victory since opening day.  Samardjiza helped himself out with a two run hom run.  David DeJesus, Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo each had 2 hits and an RBI.  DeJesus hit his 5th home run.  Josh Rutledge had 2 of the Rockies 3 RBI and 3 of the teams 7 hits.Jon Lester improved to 6-0 as the Red Sox beat the Rays 9-2.  David Price had another bad start for the Rays, and to make matters worse, left the game due to tricep tightness.  Stephen Drew hit his 4th double and 3rd hoe run driving in 4 runs.and scoring twice.Mike Aviles and Nick Swisher homered off Cole Hamels, who fell to 1-6, as the Indians beat up on the Phillies 10-4.  Jason Kipnis homered later in the game and drove in 3 runs.  Asdrubal Cabrera, Mark Reynolds and Swisher each had 2 RBI.  Jimmy Rollins had 2 hits and 3 RBI in a losing effort.
