The Rays have selected the contracts of RH Jamey Wright and 1B Shelley Duncan. In addition, they have selected the contract of RH Juan Carlos Oviedo (Tommy John surgery) and placed him on the 60-day DL. Upton Season Outlook The Rays will go as far as their bats will take them. Tampa Bay was 11th in runs scored, 13th in hits, 12th in batting average and 11th in slugging percentage in the American  League in 2012. For that to improve, it’s important for the Rays to keep the core of the team hitting consistently throughout the season. Primarily Evan Longoria, Desmond Jennings, and Ben Zobrist. Look for the Rays to improve their offense this season and give themselves a chance at finishing second or perhaps first in the A.L. East. Rays 3rd baseman Evan Longoria is already making insane defensive plays

The Rays and Orioles are currently opening up their seasons at Tropicana Field, and Rays star third baseman Evan Longoria is already making absolutely absurd plays at third base. After making a terrific play defensively in the top of the fifth, Longoria ended the inning with what is definitely the top web gem we've seen so far in the first two days of the MLB season. In...

Rays add Shelley Duncan to roster

Luke Scott is out, and Shelley Duncan is in. The Tampa Bay Rays added Duncan to the Opening Day roster Sunday, a day after placing Scott, a designated hitter, on the 15-day disabled list. Scott sustained a right calf strain last week, which he said was caused by drinking too much alkaline water. A big part of the equation for us was how long we thought Luke was going to be out...

MLB Injury News: Tampa Bay Rays DH Luke Scott headed to the DL, again

One of the positions the Tampa Bay Rays needed to address this past offseason was the role of DH. The team looked at options, signing Shelley Duncan as a possible candidate but in the end, the Rays decided to return to the same player that filled the role for at least a portion of the year last season, Luke Scott. Scott had several stints on the DL last season, and now will start...

Rays will 'Bang a Gong' throughout season

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. The Tampa Bay Rays have taken the bang a gong thing literally. A gong with the Rays starburst logo has been placed close to a wall near the right-field foul line at Tropicana Field as a tribute to T. Rexs 1971 hit, Bang a Gong. Upon bench coach Dave Martinezs suggestion, the song has served as the Rays entrance music throughout the spring. Details are foggy...
