After the Rays and David Price avoided arbitration back in January, many believed there may be hope that the 2012 Cy Young winner will stay in Tampa Bay for the long term. However, at the end of the day it’s still a business and Price realizes that.  “I do know this could be my last year here — or half-year, whatever it is,” Price told FOXSports.com during an interview. “It’s all up to the organization. I don’t think about it. If that’s what they feel they need to do, then they’ll do it.” Price, 27, holds a 61-31 record with a 3.16 ERA (20-5, 2.56 ERA in ’12) in the majors. He has also been named to three straight All-Star teams. He knows he’s worth much more. “I don’t play this game for the money, but I don’t want to be under-appreciated,” Price went on to say. “What I’ve done for this organization so far, I feel like I’ve helped this organization a great deal.” The trade of James Shields provided further proof of the continuous discussion that the Rays have the inability to pay their big stars. And even though Tampa Bay signed All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria to an extension, it does not include a no-trade clause. Much like every contract the Rays write up. So whether it’s a new stadium or other forms of revenue the team can miraculously come up with, keeping Price, Longoria, or any other star around for the long-haul is just a pipe dream. And Price knows that. “They know I would love to be here. They know that. Everybody here knows that. If we can make that happen then we will. If not, then I’ll do it the other way.” The good news is, we may never see Price in a Yankees uniform. “I wouldn’t sign a long-term deal there. Those rules, that’s old-school baseball. I was born in ’85. That’s not for me. That’s not something I want to be a part of.” For the entire interview from FOXSports.com, click here.
